8 Strange Things we all do on Social Media that proves you are a Social Media Addict

Spending a lot of time on social media? You must be aware of the strange things we all do on Social Media. Selfies, hashtags, filters all make us a social media addict?

Social Media is the most happening place now. Even my house helps are on Facebook! [Facebook keeps telling me ‘I May know them‘, as if I have no other work to Poke my house help and cook on FB!!!] We are busier on our social media time line than we actually are! If you are one who wakes up to check your Twitter Notifications or go through your Instagram feed, first thing in the morning, then you are a Social Media Addict! Believe me you are. And we have all become weird in our own life because we want to put across our life on social media. Remember the last time you scoffed at your partner for digging into the food before you could click it? Yes, exactly. Here’s sharing with you 8 Strange things we all do on Social Media and signs that you are a social media addict.

8 Strange Things we all do on Social Media that proves you are a Social Media Addict

Strange Things we all do on Social Media, social media, social media addict

Photo First – How else will you post on Instagram?

You go to a restaurant and look for a table that’s well lit. Well, not necessarily to see your date better, but to click the food photo well! When your food is served, you spend at least those 5 crucial minutes to take captivating food shots while the steam is still visible! How else are you going to up your Instagram game and show the world how smoking good your food is (or rather how happening your life is)!

Strange Things we all do on Social Media, social media, social media addict - food photo

The idea of writing this post came when I snubbed at Mr. Husband for digging into the food as soon as it got served, yet again, last weekend. “Why can’t you wait, till I have clicked a food shot”, were my exact words! His forming frown (of disgust) made me click quickly and as a result his order wasn’t clicked well at the angle I wanted and thus didn’t make it to my Instagram Food Feed!

You could follow @twinklingtinacooks on IG for some yum quotient BTW and @twinklingtina for some Lifestyle Pep Talks.

The hardcore meat lover can never say no to the Hamburger! The Hickory Barbecue Bacon Cheeseburger in this case. . . I like my meat well done. And this one’s basted with Hickory Barbecue sauce and topped with caramelized onions, cheddar, smoked bacon apart from the L&T! . . The son said, “I want the Giant Burger”. . . . This actually is giant, so much that I skipped dessert! Yes, me!!! . . . #food #foodinsta #foodie #foodporn #hardrockcafe #cheeseburger #hickorybarbecue #bbq #barbecueburger #hardrockcafeburger #foodiesofInstagram #foodiesofbangalore #bangalorefoodie #foodblogger #foodbloggerbangalore #tuesposht #cosmoaugsev

Hashtags – Caught in the Hashtag web?

If you are not using trending or popular hashtags on social media specially on Instagram and Twitter, then your post is actually living in a locked up house! That also means more than what we are writing about the post, we are fishing for the Hashtags in bulk! I do that too, because CORRECT HASHTAG = EXPOSURE > MORE LIKES. Am I right?

Did you know there are dedicated sites that churn out the trending hashtags, in your niche, platform wise? Yeah, just #selfie doesn’t work anymore.

I never thought there would be a hashtag called #LOTD [Lipstick of the Day] when I thought o sharing one of my lipstick photo and decided to use it mimicking #OOTD [Outfit of the Day – in case you didn’t know that already!]. But yes, everything is possible on social media and there definitely is a very popular hashtag called #LOTD.

Enough of #outfitoftheday can I do a post on #lipstick of the day? #lotd #lotd💋💄 Flat Out Fabulous by @maccosmetics yet another faves of mine #lipstick #lipsticklover #lifestyleblogger #lifestyle #makeupgirl #lipstickgirl

Dress Up just for an Instagram post – no PJ photos on the feed right?

The more people I meet, the more I see this trend – “don’t click my photo, not dressed for Facebook”. That included me too (even if I don’t want to be in that list). We are getting more and more Social Media conscious – photo wise. If we are not dressed aptly for Instagram, we don’t want that photo on the feed. Let me include some more things that we include in this ‘Instagramble photo check list’

  • Is dress ok?
  • Eye brows done?
  • Makeup done?
  • Hair is manageable?
  • Lighting ok?
  • Background ok?

I am guilty of some of that too. Bad lighting photos have become strictly no- no on social media, if you want anyone to check and like your photo. Right ladies?

If I am sharing a good morning post on Instagram, I am hardly visible in it. No one wants to see puffy eyes! And who wants to do makeup in the morning! But some days I don’t even give a damn! I . keep it real and flawed and that’s okay.

We are great at making faces! Post school activity – posing! . . . . #momlife #tinytot #toddler #toddlerlife #mom #momblogger #myson #mommasboy #followdyup

1001 Filters – Are you guilty of using an embarrassing amount of filters?

If you are not using 2-3 apps to edit your photos and add filters, are you even using Social Media? That’s the trend however. No photo looks like those glossy magazines if they have not been ‘retouched’ or in other words edited. Some take their Filter Game a notch above by adding way too many filters.

Strange Things we all do on Social Media, social media, social media addict - instagram filters

I am one of those lazy Instagrammers who uses Instagram’s own filters in most of the photos. My favorites being Hudson, Clarendon, Amaro and sometimes X-Pro II. I try to keep my food photos as simple as possible because too many filters ruin the look of food (IMO).

Remember the Prisma Rush when every single person was posting their posterised comical photos edited in Prisma on social media? I did that too, thank God it died down sooner.

Tagging the World – in hope they’ll like your post?

This can get annoying, specially if you are tagging same set of people for most of your post and they get 1000 notification whenever anyone replies! I tried doing that, but the amount of notifications made me dizzy. So I have said NO to tagging people.

Some people on Twitter however, don’t shy away from tagging celebrities in their tweets in hope of one reply from the celebrity. And if that ever happens that can catapult the user to being Viral – at least for a few hours!!

You Might Like – Why you should always maintain Blog Commenting Etiquette

Social Media = News – Where do you get your daily dose of News?

Do you still read a newspaper? Or log in to the news portals? If you asked me, I simply check Twitter. But here’s the catch – a lot of news on social media is manufactured? Remember the US election fiasco? If you are a Social Media addict, you will know there’s no dearth of fake news that is floating around online. Instead of the click bait articles, best is to follow your favorite newspaper on Twitter and check Tweets and headlines.  And if your newspaper organization is not on Twitter and not giving you glimpses or videos, shift your loyalty to some other channel/ news house!

Being Omnipresent – present on all platforms

One of the strange things we all do on Social Media is try to be present everywhere in every platform – because no one should miss your updates anywhere? Frankly speaking, I don’t even know exactly how many platforms are there. There’s a new one taking shape every week almost like “App of the Day”.

I have decided to choose the platforms that I need the most for my blogs and work that I do. Snapchat and Periscpe can be skipped. If you are still using Google + then, all the best!

1K+ selfies a day – Ever seen the selfies from a public toilet!

Let’s come to the coveted part of Social Media – SELFIES. Did you know, in 2013 Oxford Dictionary, awarded SELFIE as the ‘Word of the Year!’ Yeah that’s one big discovery of mankind after the first iPhone with front camera.

Before Instagram it was Facebook which got flooded with tons of selfies (mostly by girls) from the weirdest of places – washrooms of malls, airport lounge, under the blanket, movie hall toilets. And then there was Snapchat! Why on earth those dog face selfies and doll eyes selfies such a hit! Thankfully I am not guilty of these bizarre selfies.

Don’t give up, don’t take anything personallw, and don’t take no for an answer – Sophia Amoruso . . . #beyou #girlboss #selfie #lifestyle #lifestyleblogger #happyfebu11 #bepositive #dontgiveup

Okay, now when I have mentioned bizarre then you got to read about #ToiletSelfie when women started sharing their selfies on Instagram with their pants down seated in their toilets!! I mean why? Why was that trending?

All of us are guilty of doing all these strange things right? Does that make us social media addict or social media stars?

10 foods to avoid on empty stomach – what you should not eat first thing in the morning

Foods to avoid on empty stomach – Avoid easting citrus fruits, processed sugars, yogurt first thing in the morning. They could be healthy but not on an empty stomach. Here’s a list of Foods to avoid on empty stomach.

foods to avoid on empty stomach, first thing in the morning

Do you have a rushed morning every single day? Yes, we all do. Do you grab a pack of juice or a piping hot cup of coffee to start your day? You might want to PAUSE and THINK AGAIN. Good health is highly based on your diet than the amount of time you spend working out. For a healthy body it’s not just important to eat the right kind of foods but you also need to know the foods to avoid and at which time! In this post you’ll find a list of foods to avoid on empty stomach. Yes, you must not eat these foods first thing in the morning.

Why you should avoid certain foods first thing in the morning?

For your healthy eating goal, it’s important to realise how your body and metabolism works. This means getting to know how to optimize food that helps in improving digestion and absorption of nutrients. Certain foods – though packed with nutrients – can increase acidity in the body, specially when you wake up after a 7-8 hours gap of having any food.

First thing in the morning the body needs food packed with antioxidants, soluble fibres, vitamins and nutrients that will awaken your digestive and immune system.

10 foods to avoid on empty stomach

foods to avoid on empty stomach, first thing in the morning

Tea and Coffee

Drinking Tea, Coffee or other caffeinated products is a general trend in many households, but did you know it’s actually harming your digestive system? Tea or Coffee on an empty stomach increases acidity and may cause heartburn and indigestion throughout the day.

Yogurt

Do you like your breakfast cereal with yogurt, first thing in the morning? Think again. When your body wakes up after sleep your stomach already has a high acidity content. The benefits of lactic acids of yogurt is rendered ineffective when with the high acidity content of stomach acids. It’s better when you consume yogurt as snacks post breakfast time.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes are quite healthy with its high amount of Vitamin C and other nutrients. But it’s also has high levels of tannic acid that only increases the acidity levels of the body when consumed first thing in the morning. It’s one of the most important ‘healthy’ foods to avoid on empty stomach. So skip the tomato juice in the morning and have it in salads or salsas during lunch or dinner or even snack time.

Bananas

Bananas are high in carbs and iron and is considered a super food, but it isn’t your perfect mate for the empty stomach first thing in the morning. Consuming bananas on an empty stomach leads to imbalance of magnesium and potassium in blood because banans contain high levels of these two minerals.

They are absolutely good super foods post workout or as a mid-morning snack.

Citrus Fruits

The high levels of citric acid in citrus fruits like lemon, oranges, grape fruits and more can damage mucus membranes, increase acidity and cause heartburn when consumed alone first thing in the morning. This is the perfect example of right kind of food at the wrong time! These are healthy foods to avoid on empty stomach.

Spicy Food

Indians are known over the world for spicy food. We like our chilies in dosa fillings, poha, chutneys and other popular breakfast items. But eating spices and chilies on empty stomach irritates the stomach lining and increases acidic reactions and cramps. Their pungent nature can also trigger ingestion.

Aerated Drinks

Aerated drinks are bad for your health at any time of the day. It is at its worth when consumed on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. When carbonated acids mix with your stomach acids they can result in nausea, gas, flatulence and can cause cramps.

Raw Vegetable

Green raw vegetables are another group of foods to avoid on empty stomach. Green raw vegetables like cucumber are healthy but when consumed on an empty stomach the roughage can cause flatulence, heartburn and abdominal pain.

Processed Sugar

You can be a conscious eater and avoid adding sugar in your breakfast, but did you know processed sugar found in foods like cereals, donuts, pancake mixes, muffins can all be damaging to the liver? Avoid cereals that contain ‘fructose’. Simple oatmeal goes a long way.

Alcohol

Alcohol on an empty stomach is like sending alcohol straight to the bloodstreams! Without food in the stomach alcohol passes through the stomach, kidney, liver to the brain and can reach the brain under 1 minute. Yes, that fast. That is not something that you want first thing in the morning. Even if you have a hangover, don’t try to counter that with more alcohol. Choose foods that cure hangover instead. Avoid alcohol first thing in the morning.

Remember these foods to avoid on empty stomach first thing in the morning and help to optimize the digestive system of your body. Better absorption of nutrients and better metabolism will help to keep you fit.

2 Couples Who Are Breaking the Age Barriers After Retirement

by tinabasu July 24, 2018
written by tinabasu

Quite commonly, we as Indians tend to equate retirement as the time where one’s existence comes at a standstill. It has always been envisaged as that slow period in one’s course of life, where the retired individual is slowly left bereft of any goal or mission, relying only on others for support and care. The only activity in life at that point in time for the retired being – staying back at home to look after grandchildren or visiting religious places to surrender to the

While this picture may have been what the tradition has always looked like, the changing times bring with them a renewed sense of hope and vitality along with retirement. Retirement now is slowly changing to be that phase of life, which is ideal for breaking barriers, fulfilling long lost dreams and appreciating all the beauty that life has to offer.

Here are two remarkable Indian couples that have broken down the age barrier after retirement.

Here’s what they’ve been doing to inspire so many.

retirement

Louis & Janet D’Souza: Who Embarked on A Trip They Call A ‘Lifetime Journey’

This retired couple desired to see the world and gave life to their dream of travelling the world post-retirement – except that they did it differently and even beautifully, with a greater cause attached to their travel.

louis and janet dsouza post retirement road trip

Being lovers of road trips, travel and philanthropy, Louis (61) and Janet (55) set out on a trip which they named as a “Lifetime Journey” in 2016. Together, they drove across 52 countries over a period of 8 months. As a part of their charity goals, they made it a personal policy to donate Rs 10 for each kilometre that they drove. In addition to the Rs 5.5 lakhs that they contributed together, the duo also managed to raise about Rs 6 lakhs for White Doves & Muskaan Sharing Smiles.

They confidently rode through their age barrier with such tedious travelling in different climatic conditions. They managed to do so as simply as they tackled the language barrier in non-English speaking countries with the help of Google Translate and their undying spirit. In every sense of the word, they light a ray of hope, with retirement being a new beginning.

Dilip & Pooja Chauhan’s Solo Bike Trip with A Mission to Appreciate Life

This couple is another phenomenal one that has been raising the bar higher when it comes to celebrating life. Dilip (61) retired from his job as a manager of State Bank of India in Indore and almost immediately set riding across the country with his wife Pooja (57), being the pillion rider on his Royal Enfield.

Their journey was not based on impulse, but careful planning and preparation, which they engaged in for a good amount of time earlier. Both individuals adapted their bodies to be able to handle such travelling stress by taking long walks and jogging, both in the mornings and evenings. They practised going on long drives, placing extra weight on the vehicle and were careful about following proper food habits in order to raise their fitness levels.

With all of that in place, this senior couple managed to traverse 5500 kms in only a short period of 5 months. Their journey began with the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, and from there they travelled through Ajmer, Bikaner, Delhi, Chandigarh all the way up to Dalhousie, Srinagar, Leh and Ladakh. While they travelled, they celebrated festivals en route their journey and enjoyed the local flavours of different places.

In the middle of their journey, they did get an encounter with a jerk, as Dilip injured himself with a fracture. However, this setback didn’t dampen their spirits, and he recovered from his medical condition. With all the positivity intact, along with their zeal, they took it upon them to complete the remaining mission.

Such strong vigour and commitment to make one’s wishes come true is nothing short of inspiring. When the heart truly wants something, the universe always supports. All that’s needed is hope and belief, for many a time, age is just another number.

Was Breaking Age Barrier an Impulsive Decision?

Another point worth considering is that these couples did not make any impulse decisions. Their decision to travel needed finance and the couples were financially sound to embark on their mission. Similarly, if you too have your retirement dreams, ensure that you are financially secured to fulfil them in the near future. This may require you to prepare from now, while you are working, and the best way is to start making investments. For that purpose, it is necessary to invest in a good retirement policy.

Retirement planning through investment in retirement policy will provide the financial security once your regular income stops post-retirement. Moreover, it’s vital to do extensive research for choosing the right retirement policy to make ends meet and enjoy your golden years just the way you like it.

Why you should encourage questioning skills in kids for better cognitive development? #FeedIQ

Encourage questioning skills in kids. The ‘whys’, ‘whats’ and ‘hows’ will eventually help in their cognitive development. In other words, if you want smarter kids, let them ask questions. #FeedIQ

why you should encourage questioning skills in kids for better cognitive development #FeedIQ

Do you have a pre-schooler or a ‘threenager’ who keeps asking you “what is that” for everything? Does your toddler baffle you with all the ‘whys’, ‘whats’ and ‘hows’ everyday? Don’t get too worked up on it, these questions can have a deeper effect in the long run – you could be raising a smarter kid, actually. Encourage questioning skills in kids – the more they ask, the more they think, the better is the cognitive development. Yes, as a mom you have to be a friend who can and ‘is willing’ to answer his questions.  You are in fact, helping in building a good IQ in your kid. Question and answers are one of the best ways to #FeedIQ.

What is Cognitive Development?

Every time you come across this term ‘cognitive development’ you must be wondering – what is it and why is it a big milestone for a child. Cognitive Development in kids is in fact, the construction of thought process. It includes factors like inquisitiveness, perception, remembering, decision making, and problem solving. In other words – it is one of the most important development that you want to see in your child which will help him throughout the life.

Should you wait for a certain age for stimulating cognitive development?

It might sound strange, but even newborns can be stimulated for cognitive development. Many newborns can distinguish the mothers voice from all other sounds around him. The more you interact, play, sing with the baby they develop better perception.

But you can interact with your baby better when they start picking up a language and talk to you. Kids are inquisitive in nature, they want to find out what’s there around him, what’s happening in the house and can even throw random questions like ‘why is the sun yellow’, or ‘why do you need to sleep’. As long as these questions are coming it’s all good.

why you should encourage questioning skills in kids for better cognitive development #FeedIQ

Why you should encourage questioning skills in kids?

My son, who’s going to be three later this month is in that phase of asking questions all the time. We have this thing in the house where we encourage to ask questions – any questions, any amount of time – ask to your hearts will. Why do I do this? I had a lot of questions as a kid. While my dad was patient with them, my mom often asked to stop talking so much! That’s something that didn’t go down too well with me and at one point of time I thought the friends at school were better to ask questions. But no, it’s better you get all your answers from the person you consider your guide – which were my parents, in my case.

I have noticed, my son has started reasoning and comparing at this tender age. He’s able to say, ‘I can’t sit on the floor because its dirty’, when he has spilled some water. He even tests me by asking ‘what does a duck do’ (asking about the sounds) and if I happen to say it wrong, to test him, he corrects me with “no a duck does not do cluck cluck, a duck does quack quack”.

Asking questions and getting those answers form the crux of complex mind processes like critical thinking, reasoning, logic building. It even helps communication skills and social skills. So keep the questions coming.

role of a mom in cognitive development

Role of a mom in promoting your child’s cognitive development? #FeedIQ

A mother is often the most important caregiver, teacher and facilitator in a kid’s life. A kid trusts his mother blindly – what you will say will form the foundation of his thought process. Moms play an important role in enhancing a baby’s cognitive development. The more a mother interacts with her baby, since infancy, the more rapid is their development. But don’t jump into helping your kid in his critical thinking or decision making at the first go. As a mother it’s important that you encourage in letting the child think and reason on his own without your help.

6 ways to encourage questioning skills in kids

How to encourage questioning skills in kids?

#1 Play Time:

There’s no better way to learn than play and learn. When you make the learning process fun through toys, puzzles, colors, and play time, it becomes fun and kids tend to learn better. Let them name their toys.

play time for cognitive development

#2 Read Books:

I have been reading fairy tales and other books to my son since he was an infant. Picture books and stories enhances their curiosity. When you ask questions about the story or what they see on the page can often lead to interesting answers. Books will allow your child to think, and thereby to question.

#3 Allow them to make mistakes:

‘Every mistake you make is progress’. Allow the trial and errors instead of telling that ‘you have to do it.’  I allow my kid to make mistakes and then learn from it. He fell down from a stair once and got hurt because he was rushing. I explained that he needs to be careful while climbing stairs. Post that incident – he always remembers to climb one step at a time and hold the railing.

feediq

#4 Talk and Sing:

Songs are great for teaching how to remember. You can sing songs, rhymes, or even make up some tune.

#5 Ask Questions:

Kids learn by examples. What they see, they do. Ask questions to him in his way. Show him fruits and ask their names, ask him colors, cartoon characters, vehicle names or whatever the child gets to see around. When you ask questions they get encouraged to ask you questions too.

#6 Don’t reject their questions:

Children can ask repetitive questions or even silly ones. Don’t get worked up on that. It might sound silly to you, but it’s the beginning of their learning journey. The more they ask questions the better they continue to expand their knowledge. If you ask him to stop it might lead to lower confidence and reclusiveness.

dont reject kids questions

So don’t get tired, encourage questioning skills in kids for better cognitive development. After all, you as a mum only want the best for your kid.

Flawed Fairy Tales: Why I’m not comfortable reading these fairy tales to my toddler

by tinabasu June 27, 2018
written by tinabasu

Flawed Fairy Tales – The fairy tales our children read or watch actually have depressing themes – abandonment, death, murder, gender stereotypes. Are you comfortable letting your child read or watch them?

I have been reading stories to my son since he was an infant. That was a time when he loved looking at the colourful pages. Now he is going to be three in a month’s time and enjoys our bedtime story sessions. I keep collecting new books for his tiny library. Now he’s at a stage where he likes stories about kings, animals, magicians and et all. That’s when the mom in me thought, why not introduce the moral stories and fairy tales to Mr B.

And that’s when I started re-visiting the Fairy Tales that I have grown up on. I still remember having board book of Goldilocks, Peter Pan, Hansel and Gretel which I loved reading as a kid. I had my own collection of Ladybird books which I have passed on to my son. But now when I read these books, as a mom – I am not okay with it. I am not comfortable reading these flawed fairy tales.

Flawed Fairy Tales

flawed fairy tales

 #1 Hansel and Gretel

We all have read Hansel and Gretel as a kid, haven’t we? The hapless brother and sister who are left in the forest by their father, because the step-mom wishes for so. They manage to get back following the trail of stones. They are left back again and gets kidnapped by the witch.

flawed fairy tales Hansel and Gretel

ImageSource

I have read that book to my son a few times. We have this thing in our house where we can ask as many questions as we want. I encourage my son to ask questions and interact when I am reading to him. But what do I answer when a two and half-year-old exclaims “bad mommy” or ask “why did daddy put them in the jungle”? Do I really want him to grow up with the concept of bad mommies, or spineless dads? No, I am not comfortable with such flawed fairy tales.

Behind all the glitz of gingerbread house and candies, there’s a witch trying to eat a kid. How am I supposed to explain to a toddler – you should be fearful of people – specially at this age. I don’t want him to grow with the concept of fear.

#2 Jack and the Bean Stalk

Whenever I go shopping for my son, I pick up a story book for him, the latest being Jack and the Bean Stalk. It’s a story about how Jack gets some magic seeds and an enormous bean stalk grows out of them. He can reach a giant’s house up in the cloud. The giant’s wife gives him food, but he ends up taking (stealing) a bag of treasure. Next time around he steals the hen that lays a golden egg. When the Giant catches hold of him, Jack (who’s a little boy) chops off the bean stalk, the giant falls crashing down and dies. If all this was not enough, Jack then lives with his mother, ‘happily ever after’ being rich!

I had not read this story earlier, nor did I read it while buying the book – I sometimes wish why didn’t I! What are we teaching our children – IS IT ABSOLUTELY OK TO STEAL? Is it okay to kill someone when you are in trouble and live happily with SOMEONE ELSE’S MONEY?

jack and the bean stalk flawed fairy tales

Is that what we are teaching our kids? Is that what we want them to grow up thinking – it’s no big deal to live off someone’s money and not work hard for it?

As a mum, I don’t want my son to grow up with such trash thoughts or values. If a kid does anything remotely similar to Jack, the mum should be worried. Very worried.

#3 Snow White, Cinderella, Rapunzel – The Step Mom Brigade

Everyone knows these stories, as a kid I had my mum read them to me. In all these stories there are two things that are common – the step mom is always evil and it’s only and ONLY your physical beauty that is of importance. Nothing else matters. You always need to wait for your prince charming to come and rescue you from your misery.

But why? Why enforce such gender stereotypes on such young and impressionable minds? Why can’t anything else be of importance in a girl? Why do girls need to feel helpless? Why girls need to grow up thinking they have to be beautiful like Barbie or else no guy is going to ask her out on a date! It comes down to that only, isn’t it? ABSOLUTELY NO SELF-WORTH??

And why does a young boy need to feel he HAS TO BE handsome, brave, powerful and ALWAYS in search of a woman who is beautiful – and no other attributes are necessary.

The story of Cinderella needs to be thrown out of the window – girls don’t need such damsel in distress theories, not in this age.

Flawed Fairy Tales - Cinderella

#4 Arabian Nights

I was so tired of fishing out content, I ended up picking up Arabian nights for him. The book starts with a description of what the Arabian Nights is all about. How a queen was unfaithful towards the king and he decided to marry a girl every day and kill her the next day.

When a three-year old asks “what’s unfaithful”, “why is queen unfaithful” you seriously don’t know whether you want to answer that. Does a three-year old need to know about complexities of relationships? NO, not yet.

Why are we Enforcing Archaic Gender Stereotypes even in 2018?

Storytelling, reading is a great habit to inculcate in young children. My son now loves his story sessions and doesn’t want to nap without them. Me, as a mum, have to really fish out the kind of stories I want to read to him. But when I ordered a collection of books for him, it invariably came along with the likes of Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast!

Do we really need these kinds of fairy tales in 2018? Do we still need to enforce such pre historic, irrelevant ideas on young tender minds? Aren’t we feeding our boys wrong ideas that you HAVE to seek the most beautiful girl? And have her any which way (I am referring to Beauty and the Beast). I am not willing to do that.

Maybe we should all start following the Scandinavian Schools – they actually did away with the flawed fairy tales!

Some of the moral stories and fables of the Panchatantra still makes sense – because they do teach values – they were written around 300 BCE but still are worth.

What am I trying to do as a mom?

Yes, I am not comfortable in feeding such trash ideology to my son. I don’t want him to grow up thinking your sole purpose of life is to find a beautiful girl and get married! If I had a daughter, I wouldn’t want her to develop insecurity complex from such antediluvian gender typecasts.

While I do filter the content that I want to read and pick up only those books that are free of such labels, I am also trying to build up stories on the daily situations that we are facing. I try making up stories about food (he hates food, I have to glorify food every minute of the day), stories about sharing food, sharing toys.

I guess, I need to keep doing that as he grows – pick up situations from his daily routine and build stories that makes sense, instead of just reading out stories from the books! Yes, if I can write so many fictions, I bloody well make up good stories for my little man. What do you do, mums? How do you make sure your tiny ones are getting to know relevant ideologies? Let me know what do you think about flawed fairy tales.
