A to Z Challenge 2020

Theme Reveal – A to Z Challenge 2020 #AtoZChallenge

by tinabasu March 17, 2020
written by tinabasu

OMG I am doing it again! Yes, you heard that right. I am doing the A to Z Challenge 2020 again. Last two years I skipped it because of travels but this year thanks to Corona Virus I had to cancel all my travel plans (sob sob sob) and I am stuck at home. So what I do? Take part in the A to Z Challenge of course.

What is A to Z Challenge?

A to Z Challenge is a month long blogging challenge that happens every April. You blog on a theme EVERY SINGLE day except on Sundays. So you have 26 posts in April. Isn’t that cool? What makes it cooler is every day you title he posts according to the alphabets, hence the name of the challenge.

Why you should be doing the A to Z Challenge in 2020?

I have taken part in A to Z Challenge several times. Let’s see actually how many times.

  1. A to Z of Emotions in 2014 this was all fiction
  2. A to Z of Anecdotes in 2016
  3. A to Z of Leading a meaningful life in 2017
  4. A to Z of Indulgent Food in 2014 (From the Food Blog)
  5. A to Z of Healthy Eating in 2016 (From the Food Blog)
  6. A to Z of Desserts in 2017 (From the Food Blog)

It is not only good for your writing habit, but it is also great for your Blog’s SEO. So this year I am going to do it again!

Theme Reveal for A to Z Challenge 2020

This year I am writing on one of my favorite topics – Parenting! Why – cz I am a mama bear to my little cub and so far it has been a whirlwind journey.

“Children learn from what you are than what you teach” – W.E.B.DuBois

So this year I am writing on * Drum rolls * Parenting Hacks for Millennial Moms. 26 days of Parenting gyaan from a mom of a soon to be 5-year-old. Why am I writing this? I take my parenting job seriously. There’s nothing you can’t do with some love and care.

a to z challenge theme reveal parenting hacks for millennial moms

At the end of April, I am hoping I can publish this month-long journey as an e-book. I am stuck at the house in anyways! Three months of holidays!!!

Now I am also contemplating whether I should do the challenge again from my food blog too! I’ll decide on it soon! So this April, don’t forget to hop in here and read and share some parenting pixie dust!

Until Next time.

Cheers

XOXO.

Book Review – Irrationally Passionate by Jason Kothari

by tinabasu March 16, 2020
written by tinabasu

Irrationally Passionate by Jason Kothari is not just a book, it’s a journey – from being a rebel to an entrepreneur to the ‘turnaround expert’. Read the full book review of this highly personal book.

How do I know Jason Kothari? I read the news. I read about him first when he was the CEO of Housing.com after it had been going through a turmoil. The turnaround expert that he is, gave this company a 400% revenue growth. But do you know an interesting fact about this serial entrepreneur – he is in his thirties. He achieved success in mammoth proportions from a very young age. So when I got to know he’s coming out with his tell-all book Irrationally Passionate I had to pre-order it on Amazon. And now that we are all stuck to homes – thanks to COVID-19- what better way to utilize the time in something good. And dear readers read the full book review to know whether it was up to my expectations or not.

Book Review – Irrationally Passionate by Jason Kothari

This is not a ‘Gyan’ autography by an achiever – I read it as a memoir of his life and how that shaped him into what he is.

Born in Hong Kong to Gujarati parents, the younger sibling of the two, Jason was a rebel kid. While his brother was a straight-A student landing up in Stanford, Jason as a child was a decent student. Being brought up across Hong Kong, the USA means he was an outsider in any community of the school. We know how mean kids in schools can be. So a young Jason sees himself through getting beaten up, joining gangs, drinking and everything you would not want your child to go through. These experiences, however, can result in spiraling down of any individual but not when you have the will to do something big.

At 15 he landed a summer job as Jackie Chan’s assistant. He also worked towards turning him from a decent student to an Alumni of The Wharton School. But his negotiation skills started even at a younger age when on a trip to Agra he managed to bargain a marble chess board worth Rs. 500/- and got it at Rs. 30/-.

At Wharton, he collected funds along with his friend to save his favorite comic book company – Valiant from bankruptcy. In just a few years he turned it into the third-largest superhero entertainment company after Marvel and DC Comics! From then on he became the Turnaround Expert and went on to be named as one of the Top 10 CEOs of India while still being in his 30s.

My take on the Book Irrationally Passionate – My Turnaround from Rebel to Entrepreneur

You can read a book in two ways – a. read about the facts and stories b. taking the basics and reflecting it in your own life. I have this habit of putting myself in the place of the protagonist and visualize myself in the positions. There are things that you learn from this book as a parent.

Would I have been able to do a bargain from 500/- to 30/- as an eight-year-old? NO. Would my parents have allowed that to happen? NO. But what Mr. Kothari Sr did was to be the wind beneath his young son’s wings. He didn’t curb his penchant for the art of negotiation – something a lot of Indian parents don’t do.

The life of an entrepreneur is not easy. He is constantly faced with challenges. Even with the privileges that Jason has had, he had the courage to challenge the situations he found himself in from a very young age.

The book is intense and personal – written in simple lucid language making it easy to understand. I love the fact that it is not colored with business jargon – not something you would expect from a Wharton graduate. Perhaps he didn’t want to make a big deal about this degree in the book. What he did was shared his stories and stages in his life in order to inspire many young entrepreneurs.

A prominent lesson that you can find from the vicissitudes of his life is – Learn the art of rising even if you fail. Start from scratch. When your basics are right “you can avoid many dangers and defects” (in business).

If you are a young entrepreneur you want to read this book. Jason Kothari has not only shared his life stories he has also shared a blueprint to create business models.

I always say positive affirmations are very important to improve your state of mind. And I am happy to see Jason believing in them too.

“Do not Lose heart.

Believe in yourself.

Follow your passion.

Have confidence in your abilities.

Have faith in your vision.
Remain Humble.

Never Quit.

Resilience is essential.”

Why Mentalhood on ZEE5 is relatable for millennial moms

by tinabasu March 9, 2020
written by tinabasu

Mentalhood is a ZEE5 original series that shows the real challenges faced by moms. This Karisma Kapoor, Sandhya Mridul starrer looks so relatable for every millennial mom.

Everyone who gives a rosy picture of motherhood needs to do a reality check. Yes, its rosy on Instagram but in real life all moms face challenges in their parenting journey. People have unrealistic expectations from moms and no one talks about the mammoth effort she put is.

We have so many kinds of moms in our society today – stay at home mom, working mom, single mom, momprenuers and everyone’s journey is different. When I saw the trailer of Mentalhood on the ZEE5 site I could instantly relate to it.

ZEE5 originals have really good content. I am actually, so bored of TV content that I have stopped recharging my connection unless there’s some good sports or series airing which I really want to watch. I find digital content more matured, relatable and of my taste.

Here’s why I found Mentalhood on ZEE5 is relatable for millennial mom

When I saw the trailer I was surprised to see the starcast. I am not sure if I have watched Karishma Kapoor in last few years or even Sandhya Mridul for that matter!

mentalhood on zee5

What’s in the Mentalhood Trailer?

The trailer starts with Meira – with an I (Karisma Kapoor), former Miss Kanpur and a mother of three who shifts from Kanpur to Mumbai. She wants the best for her kids – sending them to the same posh school as kids of Bollywood stars, accepting advertisement offers for her kids. Then there are other moms who believe you can manage your family and career without a compromise, a mom who believe in only natural care and alternate medicines, a dad who’s no less than a mom and their own challenges.

While motherhood apparently looks like a perfect journey, it’s not rosy always. A millennial mom is expected to be perfect – a perfect home maker, a perfect parent, a perfect friend. But what happens when she loses it?  How she manages to look after everything.

What I felt after watching the trailer?

Being a mom myself I can totally relate how crazy this ride is. Even if I want everything to be perfect, I face some of these challenges too, myself. Its not just a house that depends on a mom – lives depend on her. Parenting is a big responsibility – one job that she cannot fail at. No mom wants to fail as a parent. The entire motherhood journey is crazy, stressful, challenging yet very cherishing and fun. So its quite aptly named Mentalhood.

You find so many kinds of millennial moms when you look around – moms who want total control of their kids’ life, moms who are obsessed – the ‘Momzilla’, the CEO mom who might not be able to give as much time. These are real women, these are real moms – you see them around you. All of them face their own challenges. The way society looks at them. How parenting becomes a mom’s sole responsibility.

I love the line “it takes a village to raise a child, and we are the village”. This is so true. I stay away from my family, and I am the mom who is doing a lot of things single headedly because the father is mostly busy. I wish I had that village too.

This web series is also trying to address some real problems that all parents face, unfortunately – bullying in kids, molestation in schools. So the series is looking quite interesting.

The amazing star cast of Mental hood on ZEE5 Originals

This web series has an amazing star-studded cast. I am watching most of these actors after a very long time. Karisma Kapoor as Meira Sharma, Dino Morea as a Stay-at-home-dad, Sandhya Mridul the Momzilla, Shilpa Shukla the career woman, Shruti Seth as the BOHO mom, Tiottoma Shome as the pushy mom and Sanjay Suri.

The ensemble cast is common in big banner films, but hardly you can spot them in web series. I have great expectations from Mentalhood, written by Ritu Bhati and directed by Karishma Kohli. ZEE5 originals is known to make great content.

Mentalhood starts streaming on 11 March on ZEE5 and I am totally excited about it. Are you excited too? Let me know in the comments below.

THE BODY SHOP CAMOMILE GENTLE EYE MAKEUP REMOVER | REVIEW

by tinabasu March 2, 2020
written by tinabasu

The Body Shop Camomile Gentle Eye makeup remover is suitable for sensitive skin and contact lens wearers. Follow The Body Shop make up remover review to know more details about the product.

Makeup removers have become an essential part of your skincare routine. At the end of the day, I always remove my makeup using a makeup remover before going on to use a face cleanser or a scrub. I was traveling to Goa to attend a wedding and I remembered, at the airport, that I forgot to pack a makeup remover! That wasn’t a great situation. But when you are in Bangalore airport you can get almost everything at the departure lounge. Scanning through the shops closely I landed up at the Duty-Free store and picked up this little bottle of The Body Shop Camomile Gentle Eye Makeup remover. The main reason behind his purchase being the price and the travel-friendly bottle.

I have used The Body Shop make up remover several times and I am totally in love with this product. So a full review on The Body Shop Camomile eye makeup remover totally makes sense.

THE BODY SHOP CAMOMILE GENTLE EYE MAKEUP REMOVER | REVIEW

This bi-phase makeup remover is specially meant for removing eye and lip makeup. I generally use micellar water for this purpose. But no harm in trying out the bi-phase formula.  Let’s see how The Body Shop camomile waterproof eye makeup remover fared.

the body shop camomile makeup remover

Price:

priced at Rs.895 for 160ml and has a shelf life of 36 months.

Packaging:

It comes in a transparent bottle with a blue hue with a white cap.

Ingredients as on pack –

Aqua/Water (Solvent/Diluent), Isododecane (Solvent), Isopropyl Palmitate (Emollient), Potassium Phosphate (pH Adjuster), Hexylene Glycol (Humectant), Sodium Chloride (Viscosity Modifier), Dipotassium Phosphate (pH Adjuster), Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate (Chelating Agent), Decyl Glucoside (Surfactant), Polyaminopropyl Biguanide (Preservative), Disodium EDTA (Chelating Agent), Arginine (Skin Conditioning Agent), Taurine (Fragrance Ingredient), Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract (Natural Additive).

My take on The Body Shop Camomile Makeup Remover

I got the mini version of The Body Shop Camomile makeup remover because it is a travel-friendly pack. You also get a full-size version 250 ml bottle (priced at Rs. 1295/-).

The Body Shop Camomile waterproof eye makeup remover is good if you wear waterproof mascaras and heavy eye makeup. It also claims to be safe for contact lens wearers. It is, however, always recommended that you take off your lens before removing makeup.

You can also use The Body Shop makeup remover to wipe off your long stay lipsticks. You might have to wipe twice.

How to use The Body Shop Camomile makeup remover?

The bi-phase formula has to be shaken before every use to activate the solution. It has oils in it which when shaken up turns into a foamy texture. Dab it on to a cotton pad and swipe over your eyes and lips to remove all traces of makeup.

bi-phase make up remover The Body Shop

This is a travel-sized bottle and the wrapper around it covers most of the bottle. But if you look closely you can spot the two distinct layers of oils and watery solution.

It is a clear solution with no added fragrance or color.

Does it irritate the eyes?

If you are wearing only eyeshadow and liner the makeup would come off in one single swipe. I hold the cotton on my eyelids and count till three and then swipe. Those three seconds are enough to wipe the eye shadow and liner. However, if you are wearing waterproof mascara you might need to swipe two times.

I haven’t felt any irritation in eyes so far because I don’t use waterproof makeup and I have not had to use it repeatedly. Camomile otherwise is an ingredient that is good for soothing skin.

Pros – The Body Shop Camomile Gentle Eye Makeup Remover

  1. Removes waterproof makeup
  2. Gentle to the eyes
  3. Doesn’t leave residue
  4. Suitable for all skin types
  5. Travel-friendly packaging
  6. Cruelty-free product
  7. No fragrance
  8. No color
  9. Nonirritant

Cons – The Body Shop Camomile Gentle Eye Makeup Remover

  1. Expensive
  2. Has Isopropyl Palmitate

Would I recommend The Body Shop Camomile Gentle Eye Makeup Remover?

I would totally recommend it for removing eye makeup and lip stains. However, I don’t use this on my face. Isopropyl Palmitate is comedogenic and might bother girls with acne-prone skin.

I like using a cream-based formula for the skin and water-based removers for the eyes.

Top 5 Advice to Follow When Planning A Wedding in Goa

by tinabasu February 20, 2020
written by tinabasu

Planning a wedding In Goa can be exciting and exhausting. Here is some advice to keep in mind when you are planning your destination wedding in Goa.

So, like most millennials, you too have made googly eyes at Aditi’s perfectly dreamy Udaipur wedding in Yeh Jawaani Hain Deewani and Anushka and Virat’s couple goal-worthy destination wedding in Tuscany, and secretly wished to host a destination wedding for yourself. But no matter how cool the idea may appear, planning a wedding outside your place of residence is a daunting task. Finding the best property deals, vendors, decorators, etc. on a budget can be challenging even in case of a traditional wedding in the city, but its destination wedding causes extra amount of stress. This is why it’s important to choose the right location for your destination wedding. It’s especially because, apart from taking care of the usual arrangements, when you go abroad to marry, nuptial laws and regulations exclusive to the concerned country may have to be followed. It can create a lot of hassles on your big day if you aren’t prepared beforehand.

Moreover, destination weddings in exotics places like Bali, Italy or Maldives costs way more than the one you can have in India. Take Goa for example. You can spend the same money and plan a grand wedding in Goa, or you can spend half the amount and plan an intimate, astonishingly romantic beach wedding in South Goa.

Here we have listed the top 5 advice to help you Planning A Wedding in Goa – Your own Destination wedding in Goa

planning a wedding in goa destination wedding in goa

1. Set the date as early as possible

First thing first, finalize a date at least 9 to 12 months before the wedding. Goa is an immensely popular destination when it comes to weddings. The peak season – which is from September to March – is an excessively busy time. The venues of your choice will be unavailable or cost higher than usual if you book late. This is the reason all Goa wedding planners suggest to set the date as early as possible if you don’t want to compromise on any arrangements.

2. Trim down the guest list

In case of a destination wedding, you are most likely to pay the major chunk of your guests’ expenses, so it’s obviously necessary to send out invitations wisely. Only those friends and relatives who are really close to you and care for you should be a part of your big day.

3. Pick a theme as per the season

All the best wedding planners in Goa will advise you to go for an indoor ceremony if you are getting married in the monsoon, for obvious reasons. But if it’s winter you can say your vows on the beach, under a gazebo or mandap. Goa is known for heavy Konkan rain and bright winter days, so pick the theme of your wedding accordingly.

destination wedding in goa panning a wedding in goa

4. Make travel arrangements

From flight or rail bookings to booking transportation from the airport or train station to the venue should be done well ahead of the wedding day. Goa wedding planners can find good cab deals for your guests and help you avoid any last-minute extra cost.

5. Hire help

Planning a wedding in Goa can be stressful and you can face scams when dealing with local vendors. This is why hiring a professional wedding planner like Art Goa to help you save money and also ease off the stress of arranging everything singlehandedly.
