Five Sentence Fiction – Will it be a yes?

by Tina Basu August 8, 2014
written by Tina Basu
If you are in Bangalore you must be enjoying the beautiful weather. I simply love it. Just went out in the afternoon for lunch and experienced the cold shower. There’s a certain charm in getting drenched in the rain. Sometimes I feel like rolling down the window to let some rain in.

Now since the weather here is so romantic, I want to write a romance fiction, so here’s a romantic flash fiction for Lillie’s prompt.

Will it be a yes?

The otherwise confident and uber cool Ethan felt butterflies flying in his stomach today.

He was nervous… he had felt it from the heart this time, this was not a casual attraction.

He knew she is the one… she is the one with whom he wanted to grow old with.

Will she say a yes…. What if she rejects… for the very first time he had written this letter with all his heart…

He saw her entering the river deck at a distance… his heart skipped a beat… his eyes lit up when her luminoussmile gave away her answer… yes… she will say yes… Ethan knew it inside.

Short Fiction – Un-Follow

by Tina Basu August 7, 2014
written by Tina Basu

I am thinking how long can I blog daily? It’s like more  than 40 days of non-stop daily blogging and I am surprised that i didn’t give a miss. Now to think I’ll blog daily for ever, with all other things that I do will be just too much. It will be Utopian for me to think that i’ll manage to keep up to that. So I am setting out smaller targets and smaller goals. May be with a smaller goal I might do well.

So I am thinking of blogging daily till Sep end and then take a break during Oct first week and then again blog daily till Dec end! That still is too much i guess. But that’s what going to be the challenge! Fingers crossed.

So time for ABC Wednesday today. This week it’s time for the letter D. And I’m choosing Dramatic. Now we all know what dramatic means so i’ll not explain.

Here goes my little fiction on the word.

Un-Follow

“Did you just un-follow me?” yelled Betty without uttering a greeting.

“Hello…Betty let’s not fight at this hour”, replied a sleepy Nathan.

“Not fight???? How would you feel when you wake up in the morning and check your phone and see your girl friend has un-followed you?

“hmm…”

“Wake up and answer me”

“Bett, we’ll talk at school”

“No…. I need an answer now!! What is wrong with you?”

“With me? What is wrong with you Bett? Look at the time, it’s 4 in the morning and you are calling me to ask about un-following!!!”

“Why did you do it? You don’t like me anymore?”

“Bett…. Please…”

“Tell me..”

“Why are you being so dramatic? It’s big deal. I don’t want to follow your tweets, that’s it”

“You know what, I get it… You don’t deserve me, it’s over Nathan Anderson….
It’s just over”, she yelled and disconnected the phone.

His little effort of un-following had paid off, he never knew it would be so easy to break away with his over possessive and crazy girlfriend. Nathan kept his phone by the pillow and went back to sleep.

Okay no fiction today. I was surfing the net today and saw this awesome video of an incredible two year old. And I was flabbergasted to see his talent. You don’t see such prodigies often, and doing what he does at his age is just awesome.

Watch the video and see it for yourself.

Wasn’t he just adorable??? This was part of a show so can’t be morphed or rigged. This little guy is a talent house. I hope all the best for the champ. May he grow up to be a legend. He is so cute!!!!

What do you think people?

100 Word Story – What Kauma Says?

by Tina Basu August 5, 2014
written by Tina Basu

Did I tell you I was am a lazy blogger?? So lazy that I didn’t even get to the end of the post from Write Tribe for the prompts!!! It’s only last night when I saw Vidya’s post that I got to know there was a Saturday Prompt.

Anyways, coming to the prompt, I love the Saturday Prompt – cz it’s about grannies!!!! Now I have not seen either my maternal grandparents or the ones on my dad’s side. My fauther’s aunt has been staying with us and ever since I was a little child I am extremely attached to her. She is the most active 97 year that I have seen!! She still read’s newspapers, washes her own clothes, goes up and down the three storied house. Can you imagine doing that at 97??? She is one of those persons who speak Bangal so fluently. If you are a Bengali you will know that Bangla and Bangal language difference! And it’s kind of cute. I too can speak fluently in Bangal because of years of conversations with her.

Now I have a special name for her. In Bengali your ‘Chachi’ or ‘Kaki’ is called ‘Kakima’ and she is everyone’s Kakima… but when I was little I couldn’t pronounce Kakima and whatever sounded every time I called her was Kauma… and that has remained till date. I have grown up calling her that! I grew up under her nose and she is – still is – extremely possessive about me. It’s so much fun to have such an amazing lady around in your formative years.

Anyways so coming to the prompt, here is my 100 word story on what my granny said.

What ‘Kauma’ Says?

“Are you oiling your hair? Are you tying your hair at night? What did you eat? Didn’t you eat fish? When are you coming back to Kolkata?”

“I will come and meet you soon, I will come in December”

“Are you oiling your hair?”

“Yes yes I am, now tell me how are you doing?”

“Here everything is fine, you are sounding different, did you catch a cold?”

“Yeah slight… here weather is like that”

“Go have the ‘kalmegh & chirotar jol’… you remember how I fed you that when you were little? It will keep you good from inside.”

———————————-

This is merely not fiction, this could be an excerpt from any of our conversation, as kids all of us were terrified of this medicine like water that she used to feed us. This Kalmegh & Chirota are some plant parts which she used to boil in water and make us have that early in the morning. It’s like some ayurvedic medicine that boosts immunity. It tasted like the bitterest of bitter thing that you can have – completely gross. We used to hate it but sometimes when I think back, she definitely helped my immunity and I had a life free of any disease apart from some common cough and cold! So I should thank the kalmegh & chirota and also my Kauma for having the patience to run after us till the end of the terrace to put that thing down the throat!!

by Tina Basu August 4, 2014
written by Tina Basu
“You can open your eyes Jenko”

“No… no… I will fall”

“You won’t fall”

“I can feel it… why did you bring me here? I want to go home, mommy”

“Jenko… open your eyes… you won’t fall… trust me… mommy is here”

“See you are here… next to mommy… and your sitting all secured here”

“I will not fall right?”

“Absolutely not. Now look there can you see what’s there outside?”

“No… I don’t want to look there… but…what are these??? Mommy are those tiny little houses for tiny little men?”

Rona smiled, Jenko’s first flight was becoming smooth gradually.

115 posts in this year and still counting!!

by Tina Basu August 4, 2014
written by Tina Basu
I was just checking out my own blog today – I don’t know why – and figured out lately I have been blogging quite a lot. Do you remember I was sulking some time back on how people post everyday and each month they have so many posts and so on. I just realized in the last seven months I had 115 posts!!! And this one is my 116thone!!!!!!! I am super happy with it. It’s only mid –year and I have more than 100 posts – Tina does a happy dance :).

This wouldn’t have happened if I had not participated in the A to Z Challenge or the Ultimate Blog Challenge – that technically gave me 61 post!! But thank god I participated in them – otherwise to get a lazy blogger like me to do so many posts is a huge task!!! And in course of that I got to know so many awesome bloggers!

Now can I do 135 posts more this year??? You never know… I still have 4 months to go… Brace yourself guys for loads of fiction, reviews and a lot of things!!!

Thank you readers for dropping by and liking what I blabber. You are the inspiration and your comments and encouragement mean a lot to me.
