Grow in Life – Step 7 to Leading a Meaningful Life | #AtoZChallenge

Don’t go through life, GROW through life” – Eric Butterworth.

Life is full of experiences and experience teaches you the best things. Don’t settle down in your comfort zone. Comfort kills you, comfort kills the creativity inside you. You need to grow in life, not just grow your height or bank balance – and most of this growth happens outside your comfort zone.

grow-in-life

You work hard year after year to scale the ladders in your career. But have you ever sat and pondered if you are really growing other than the salary that’s getting credited!

“One of the best ways to become the best versions of our self is to continue to grow as a person.” – unknown

5 ways to Grow in Life to make yourself a better person

Be a student of Life

Life is dynamic and it offers you much more than you can imagine. Become a student of life and learn every day from your experiences. Read more – there are enough resources to make you wiser.

Pick up a new Skill

You are never too old to learn something new. Enroll yourself over the weekends in things you like – photography, new software,  do a certification course. If you fancied learning a new language – do that now, if you always wanted to play a guitar get to a music class now. Knowledge is the true asset you have which is far more expensive than your property.

Take Care of yourself.

If you don’t realize the importance of good health, then my friend you need to wake up right now. Would you want your life to be engulfed in medicines and tests? Do not neglect your health or body. Eat healthy and eat on time.

Interact with People

By interacting I mean not just on social media but face to face. Meet friends, their family. Make friends face to face and not just on Facebook. Humans require the human touch and it is becoming less every day. You learn from people more – how they talk, what their experiences are, than their status updates.

Practice Gratitude and Thankfulness

Practicing Thankfulness and gratitude is a way of life. Practice gratitude every day. When you are thankful you are focusing on the things you have or the things you have experienced rather than on the things you don’t have. Focusing on the positives in life make you grow spiritually.  Learn humility, thank people – it helps you to become a better human.

Get out of your comfort zone and Grow in Life it is one of the most important steps to leading a meaningful life.

Freedom in Life – Step 6 to Leading a Meaningful Life | #AtoZChallenge

written by tinabasu

Life is funny – it can be simple and challenging at the same time. The eternal conflict between NEED and WANT haunt you all the time. You probably cannot overcome the WANT unless you find freedom in life. Freedom has been a popular topic across times and has been dealt extensively in books, movies, speeches everywhere. But what is this freedom? Is it the freedom from societal pressure? Is it the freedom of speech?

freedom-in-life-lifestyle-tips

If you asked me – I would want a free mind – freedom from everything. I would love the freedom from pain, freedom from anger, freedom from uncertainty in my life. We have not taken birth to settle for the good enough, so why not free your mind and make space for freedom in life?

5 Musts to Experience Freedom in Life

Freedom from Debt

Living in debt is the hardest thing. There have been innumerable lives ruined under debts. Stop that urge to buy everything on your credit card. If you are not paying off the bills every month reduce its usage as much as possible. In case you are using it pay off in time. Don’t roll over to next month and end up paying late fees, finance charges and all sorts of hidden charges – it will only build up the stress on you.

Freedom from Ego

Life is short to live with all the ego. Let go of your ego, live in gratitude, be humble. A sorry isn’t the end of the world. Don’t ruin relationships and friendships over ego. (I seriously want to say that to a certain celebrity comedian who is recently on news for all the ego troubles with co-workers). But that doesn’t mean you let anyone take you for granted.

Ego says, “Once everything falls into place, I’ll feel peace.” Spirit says, “Find your peace, and then everything will fall into place.” – Marianne Williamson

Freedom from Conditioning

We are conditioned by the society to be a certain way, especially if you happen to be the one with the xx chromosome. Try to avoid these conditionings wherever you find them illogical. Why should you be told what to do instead of doing what you want to do?

Freedom from routine

Life is not a constant and you are not a machine – though your company would want you to be one. Don’t settle for something ‘good-enough’ don’t settle for the ‘good life’ image that society has made for you. Want more from life and work towards getting that more. These are the wants that will make you the person you are. Want more knowledge, want more wisdom, want peace, want to be extraordinaire.

Freedom from Want of material stuff

Wanting material goods is okay but losing your peace of mind behind that is not. When you are eighty years old will you remember the LV bag you had bought or the Ultra-Luxe dress you wanted to get? Choose experience over material goods, make memories. You will remember the experience, the memories of maybe how you felt doing a skydiving, or what was your experience being away from civilization and sleeping under the stars.

Make mistakes and learn from them – that’s truly how you will experience freedom in life.

Enjoy Life – Step 5 To Leading a Meaningful Life | #AtoZChallenge

“Enjoy life, we only live once”

I am not sure if you really have multiple births, I have no idea if I was a cat in my earlier life, I only know I have one life and I want to make that nice, beautiful and meaningful. No matter what happens, I have to enjoy life.

enjoy-life-tina-basu-atoz-challenge

I often remember this dialogue from the movie Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara “Seize the day my friend, Pehle is din ko poori tarha jio , phir challis ke bare mein sochna” which essentially means, live and enjoy this day and think about the forties later. I don’t want to be in a situation when I grow old and look back on life and think – I could have done so many things in life, but I didn’t because I was too interested in securing the future. Working towards securing the future is not bad, it is more practical. I don’t want to lead the EMI life in the run of enjoying today. You definitely need to secure your future, but that doesn’t mean you will not enjoy your life today. Finding that balance is the key. You need to Enjoy Life.

How to Really Enjoy Life?

There are tons of ways to REALLY ENJOY your life. Give importance to the small joys in Life. DO the following and feel the difference

  1. Feel the music, not just listen to a song
  2. Enjoy your food, don’t just eat because you have to it
  3. Appreciate people for their work
  4. Live in Gratitude
  5. Pick up a new hobby – you might want to paint, read a classic, learn to dance, do a Zumba or Yoga
  6. Go out and play with your kid
  7. Give yourself a lazy day
  8. Take out old photo albums and browse through (or even the FB albums), relive the memories
  9. Wake up early to catch the sunrise
  10. Go out on an early morning drive

These are random things anyone can do anytime, but all of these give you a sense of joy, sense of being good. Is it too difficult to really enjoy life?

There are so many things to do before I am too old – so many books to read, so many places to travel, so many things to see and know. Right now I am enjoying being a mom, I am enjoying the antics and frolics of my son, Bluey. I am enjoying making myself an entrepreneur. I want to enjoy the little things in life as well. Today’s bloom in the balcony garden brought a big smile. I hope to keep that up.

Dare to Dream – Step 4 to a Meaningful Life – A to Z Challenge 2017

written by tinabasu

Life is tough; it is not a bed of roses for everyone. But it’s in our hands to make life good, to make life fruitful. Sometimes life throws you difficult choices and we have to take those difficult decisions. You have to dare to stand up to fears and make those choices. You have to Dare to Dream.

dare-to-dream

“Life hold special magic for those who dare to dream” – Unkown

Instead of worrying about the future, take care to live today. Instead of complaining about what you don’t have, what you want, the pains and hardships start practicing gratitude, start being thankful for what you have. You have yourself, you have your talent. Find out what you are passionate about, realize your own talent – when you give wings to your talent you can go places.

van-gough-starry-nights-quote

When my son was born I was very clear on one thing – I wanted to be the hands on mom. I wanted to see him grow up. I don’t consider my parents or in-laws as default ‘care-takers’ of the child that I wanted to have. Nor do I want a maid or a crèche to look after him. I took a decision to quit my job so that I could be with him. Does that mean I am not ambitious? Does that mean I didn’t like my career? Does that mean I don’t want to work? It means none of them. I love working. I cannot sit still for hours and not work. Quitting the job and not having your salary getting credited every 30th of the month was a big step. But I believed in myself and my potential.

I am working for myself, I have always loved writing and designing. When I am falling back on my skills to work for myself I am enjoying my journey. It is a long journey I probably have to work double of what I was previously at job, but I find this very satisfying – because I get to be with my son, I am working, I am paying my bills.

“Don’t just dare to dream, dare to live your dreams.”

Celebrate Life – Step 3 to a Meaningful Life – A to Z Challenge 2017

“The more you praise and celebrate life, the more there is in life to celebrate” – Oprah Winfrey.

celebrate-life

Your life, is finally your life – not your parents, not your spouses, not your kids’ but YOUR life. You have to take the reins of your life in your hand and decide how you want to live your life – make it meaningful, significant or live like a machine. Simply Celebrate Life.

Create moments in your life, celebrate those moments. Write about your moments so that they last long and you can go through them and have a broad smile on your face when you are older.

It doesn’t matter in which stage of life you are – you can be in your twenties, in your thirties or in mid-life – living a wholesome life is a matter of your decision – you can decide to love it and make it fruitful or decide to detest it or just survive it.

At some point during my post grads I thought – if I survive these two years I’ll have a better job and my life will be set. During my working years I thought if I survive a few years I’ll have a better position, better pay etc etc. But I also did one thing – I didn’t let my hobbies/ talents die out in the run of surviving life. I managed to keep writing – on the blog, in the journal. I gave importance to the new found interests of baking. I still doodle at times. Did I celebrate life? I at least kept myself alive and not become a machine.

“The best way to prepare for life is to begin to live.” – Elbert Hubbard

Today having quit my career I am bringing back those hobbies into work. I write and design professionally now and the best part is I am working for myself! Life itself is a celebration. The kind of person I am I am never content with one thing. I always feel the best is yet to come. Till I have that light in my heart I know I can do greater stuffs – in my own way. Am I celebrating life now – of course.

You know the key to peace within yourself now – Celebrate Life.

“In order to succeed, we must first believe that we can.” – Nikos Kazantzakis

believe-in-yourself

When you believe in yourself get the push to do amazing things in life. Could Barrack Obama become the President of the United States if he didn’t believed himself? Could the 19 year old Reshma Qureshi, an acid attack survivor walk the runway at New York Fashion Week if she didn’t believe in herself and her life?

It is this belief that helps us overcome obstacles in life. The force that makes us do the unthinkable comes from within – it is inside you.

aimee-mullinsDid you know about Aimee Mullins? She is an American Athlete, Actress and a Fashion Model. What is the big deal in it, did you ask? Mullins was born without the fibula bones of the legs – a condition called fibular hemimelia and as a result of that she had to get both her legs amputated at the age of one! She could have led a life of a handicap but she was meant for more. She was the first person in the world on the “Cheetah” carbon-fibre sprinting legs – the prosthetic leg that looks like J. She made that design iconic through her extensive global press coverage.

Aimee competed in the Paralympics in 1996 in Atlanta and set World Records in the 100 meter in 17.01 seconds. She was named as one of the “Coolest Girls in Sports” by the Sports Illustrated magazine. After retirement, she went on to become an actress and fashion model. She believed in herself and her life. She chose not to lead a wheelchair-bound life.
