Book Review: The Proposal by Lily Zante

Now for last few weeks I am hooked on to the Kindle Cloud reader and the Kindle app on my phone. Ever since I planned to take public transport my time for reading has increased, thankfully. I came across this chick lit light romance fiction on Amazon and it was free to download, so I thought of giving it a try. At the end I was really overwhelmed so thought I might as well review it here. 

Now little warning for you guys – it’s adult and mushy romance, so if you don’t like such stuffs then you may avoid. But who doesn’t like some mushy romance sometimes?? “The Proposal” is the first book of A Perfect Match Series. It’s followed by a prequel “Lost in Solo” and the final book is “Heart Sync”.


The Story

Nadine is an independent & fierce career woman who has always weighted her career above anything else. While hosting a bachelorette party for her little sister Nadine encounters the handsome, well-built and suave Ethan Adams who happens to be a male stripper. Nadine hires Ethan for a weekend to play a pretend boyfriend for a work convention that she has to attend with a partner. Now that she didn’t have one she couldn’t just go there without anyone in her arms.

During the weekend Nadine discovers Ethan was stepping in for a night as the stripper in place of a sick friend and he actually is a male escort! As if the stripper part was not enough!! But she is attracted to his brains and brawns and how he charms everyone around. Ethan on his part, is equally attracted and amused with Nadine as how a pretty face like her is not the conventional girl like. He gives Nadine the due respect and sleeps in his sleeping bag in spite of sharing a suite in a five star.

Both are attracted emotionally towards each other but are in dark on what the other one thinks about, and at the wrong time Nadine finds him shirtless with another woman and misunderstanding crops up heightening the tension between them. Sandra, Nadine’s catty boss at the ad-agency figures out about Ethan’s stint as an escort and whips up a whirlwind at her workplace. It takes another friend to come and explain the situation and Nadine wakes up to reality after some agonizing and lonely weeks and gives Ethan a visit at his Studio. Mr. Adams is not a sleazy stripper or escort he is an artist. With confusions cleared up you have Nadine and Ethan together through their passion filled colorful nights and romantic times.   

My Thoughts

Okay… now did I tell you most of the story?? Well its okay I guess, since it’s not a suspense thriller or anything of that sort. It’s a mushy romantic Chick Lit read. But hold on… it’s not just another read. The way the characters are built are superlative. I loved Ethan so much that I could fall in love with him. He is handsome, he is suave, he has the perfect physique he has the restrained look (that’s what you visualize as you read), a power house of emotion – such a hero material. I got so engrossed in their love story that I couldn’t wait but ordered and read the sequel. I will review that later. Ethan for me is such a real character.

As much I loved Ethan and Nadine and got pissed of the lady on why she couldn’t trust her man, I equally hated Sandra the catty boss for being such a bitch. Now the end of The Proposal gets a little predictable, but which romance fiction I not. We all know the hero has to get his lady, and a hero like Ethan damn well should get his lady!

Now coming to the writing style – I think the book was for the British audience and later changed for the US. The characters are American and stay in San Francisco and they speak British words. But I am not complaining. A good read is a good read. I am completely overwhelmed with this read you might have realized that by now so I will pass the little grammar glitches as well… haha

My Rating – 4.5/5.

I usually don’t rate a romance genre so high given that I absolutely love thrillers and mystery. But I couldn’t help but rate this one high because I freaking loved it. GoodReads didn’t allow me a 4.5 so I had to rate it 4 there.

Five Sentence Fiction – The Stalker

Five sentence Fiction time again, and I just realized that i haven’t written anything after my last week’s FSF!!! 

But something happens when I get these prompts.. I simply get a rush to write it down as soon as possible! I wish I did that for other posts too…

The Stalker



Ethan couldn’t take this anymore, he couldn’t believe he could turn a stalker one day.

But that’s what he had become, he followed Susan everyday from her tiny apartment till she walked to her workplace, and back to her place in the evening, but he made sure he kept a distance.


He couldn’t leave her walking alone in this Downtown area which was infamous for the street thugs, he still cared for her.

Susan seemed happy and lost in the world of addiction, she was completely consumed by drugs and it was evident from her face.


Ethan’s heart achedevery time he saw Susan in this state – he still loved his lady love, his sweetheart, his ex-wife, even two years after their bitter divorce.

I was thinking of writing a book review today but then came Lillie’s mail in my Inbox with this weeks prompt for Five Sentence Fiction. And I somehow felt I need to write it at once. 

As I told you a few days back I have started following Lillie and her Five Sentence Fictions, I am going to do my second one now. You can read my earlier attempt here. Go ahead and check this one out.

Natalie woke up in the hospital bed and saw no one around.

Amidst the beeping machines and saline tubes she tried to look for Nathan but he was not in the room.

She tried to remember what had happened but her mind seemed blank when she heard the door opening.

Nathan walked in but his Frozen face gave away something was terribly wrong and Natalie started to panic.

“Darling don’t feel disturbed, God took our unborn child in His paradise, but don’t worry next time we’ll be more careful, we will definitely make a good family”.

Five Sentence Fiction – In Two Minds

I came across Lillie’s blog while surfing the net today and found this nice thing that she does. Each week she gives out one word inspiration and you need to write a ‘five sentence fiction’ based on that word theme.

Now I have been doing 55 fiction (you can read them here) for some time now and thought this is going to be good and I should give it a try. So doing this 5 sentence fiction for the first time. It’s a cool thing when you don’t know what to write! So go ahead check it out.


In Two Minds

Mona was feeling nervous as she waited alone in the green room after her college play, thinking endlessly why their chief guest, the famous Bollywood director Karan Mehta would want to meet a college girl like her and that too alone in the green room!

‘Is he going to take any advantage like how all the gossip magazines keep writing all the time’- she kept thinking as Karan Mehta walked in with his usual swagger.

“You were beautiful in your character, my darling, I can see those Sparks in you, 5 years from now you can become the top actress in the country and that’s why I am going to sign you as my lead heroine in my next film” said Karan Mehta with a smile.

“I can’t thank you enough for this Sir” said an ecstatic Mona with moist eyes.

“Sir… wanted to tell you something sir…” she said as Mehta turned to leave, “You are not how the media says, you are too good, thank you again”.

Book Review: Sirens Spell Danger by Suresh Chandrasekaran, Karthik L, & Radha Sawana

Hello Everyone, I am going to review a cool thriller today written by three awesome blogger turned authors. Yes that’s why I am so excited about it some of them I know personally and I am so happy that they are going great guns in getting themselves published. This review is going to have a different format because it’s not just one story but as you can guess it has three different stories. So let’s see how the sirens sound and how dangerous this one is.

“Femme Fatale” is the First story by C Suresh and I love the way he chose to open his story – “How could I have known that merely turning to ogle at a lovely girl would lead me into so much danger?” The author makes it quite clear what you are going to expect in the next few pages. 


We have Tanyawho is also known as Ayesha who of-course is our femme fatale and we have Vicky the newly selected IPS officer. Vicky finds himself in difficult situations and on the verge of his end due to the different situations and incidents caused by our femme fatale. His trip to Bangalore goes horribly wrong and he is faced with the secrets of socio-political world.
Femme Fatale is a fast paced and suspense filled thriller and Suresh has done a wonderful job. His style of story-telling is something which you should read. Being from Bangalore no wonder he has introduced the city in the story. You can never miss the strings of wit when you read his works, in this or in his blog posts. He writes fiction, is a winner of many blogging contests and also is an active trekker. You can jump to his blog here.
The next story is “Bella Donna” by Radha Sawana and there is a lot in that title. I loved the intricate plot and the use of forensics to make it even interesting. While reading I thought she must have done a good amount of research but then when I read about her I figured out her background in chemistry and thus realized her interest in weaving the story in this fashion. It’s a wonderful thriller and one of my favorites now. Radha Sawana is a multifaceted blogger. Do check out her blog Entropy.
The next one is “Bellary”by Karthik L. Set in the backdrop of the famous North Karnataka district Bellary this crime tale has everything in it – politics, mafia, mythology, mystery. There are certain parts which I wish were dealt with some more care but none the less the author’s story telling way is simple and easy and you find it quite enjoyable. Karthik L is one of the finest science fiction I know and his blog is a super blog. Do check out his blog and you will like the series I am sure.
My thoughts – I think it’s a good thriller by Indian authors and quite enjoyable.
