Is your child growing the way they should? Know the major growth indicators in children in India. This guide will help you, moms.
Are you that mom who is always worried about your child’s growth? Are you looking up the growth charts and wondering, ‘Is my child growing normally’?
Well worry not, it happens with many moms. This guide will help you know what the major growth indicators in children in India are- so you know when to worry and when not to!
What are the major growth indicators in children in India?
In this guide, I will share with you my own experiences with my son and the advice shared by the paediatrician. It is always good to be informed, as mums – that helps you obsess about things lesser!
Most growth happens during a very young age and he was scoring well on his growth indicators, making his doctors happy every single time we visited.
#The Toddler Years Stories
Growth rate slows down during the toddler years and that sends the moms in a frenzy! That is like the gospel truth – believe it or not.
It gets heart breaking for any mom to witness the adorably chubby arms and legs and belly slim down.
I remember running to the doctor often during these years because the well feeding son turned a fussy eater and looked thin.
“He is fine, don’t worry”, was what the doctor said. “This happens, the growth will slow down, don’t worry”
The developmental milestones are also equally important. If your child is scoring well in these, then there is no need to obsess about why your child is looking thin.
Then doctors start measuring the BMI (Body Mass Index) of your child – which essentially is to check if the weight of your baby makes sense of his height.
At the end of the third-year children can frame longer sentences, recognize colours, pictures, even express emotions better, climb, run, use tricycle. By this age, they are already in pre-school.
When to worry?
Speak to your doctor if your child is facing these issues at the end of 3 years
- Has unclear speech
- Drools often
- Is not speaking sentences
- Doesn’t make eye-contact
- Doesn’t understand simple instructions
#3 Ages 4-7
This is the age when they usually start eating better – much better than the first three years. Height and weight continue to increase steadily with them adding 2-3 inches a year.
The height and weight are not just dependent on food at this moment – but mental development, physical sports all contribute towards it. They go through growth spurts from time to time.
When to worry?
Speak to your doctor if your child is facing these issues at the end of 5 years
- Doesn’t respond to people
- Usually withdrawn
- Can’t do simple tasks – brushing teeth, washing hands on their own
What to do if your child is refusing food in Toddler Years?
The refusal of food can be a harrowing experience for any mom. Toddler tantrums are a real thing. You can only deal with this with patience and perseverance.
When you understand this, you can plan the meals out better, try different healthy snack options and get dietary supplements to boost their growth.
My Journey with PediaSure
My son’s doctor had recommended PediaSure when I was explaining how he was refusing most foods but was okay with milk, smoothies and juices.
I started giving him PediaSure on a regular basis to arrest the nutritional gaps due to fussy eating and I have seen improvements.
PediaSure provides complete balanced nutrition for children. It is scientifically formulated and provides 100% of the recommended macronutrients and micronutrients which are essential for a child’s growth and development.
With 37 nutrients PediaSure has shown to increase height and weight within 90 days!
PediaSure Growth Tracking
PediaSure helps in bone growth and you can see the visible growth in 90 days! So, I am putting it to test and am taking up the PediaSure 90 Days Challenge where I am going to use the Pediasure Growth Tracker to track my son’s growth.
The tracker is adapted from the WHO child growth charts. It gives you personalised reports on your child’s growth.
