Today we are talking home décor, because a beautiful home is the birth place of love, hope and dreams. We all want our homes to look beautiful and lively. #MadeinIndia home décor and handicrafts items have become widely popular in recent times. Handicraft items brings you closer to local art, creativity and tradition. And it is the right way of being ‘vocal for local’.
I am a big supporter of the Make in India initiative and supporting small businesses make so much sense. I like the rustic touch that handmade handicraft items can add in your home. So when I found iTokri has a plethora of genuine handmade items by Indian artisans from various places across the country I was intrigued to order something rustic for my home.
In this post I will share with you my shopping experience with iTokri and the kind of handmade items you can find on the site.
What is iTokri?
iTokri is an e-commerce site that brings you closer to the diversity of Indian art and artisans. They deliver handicrafts items, clothing, fabrics, paintings and much more direct from villages and small towns of artisans to your doorstep allowing them to thrive and be sustainable. They even ship worldwide.
#MadeInIndia Home Décor items that I bought
Sabai Grass Planter
There are tons of home décor items on iTokri and you are spoilt for choice. But I wanted to add a little rustic feel in my modern home and got a beautiful planter for my indoor plant. I have seen so many people using jute planters made out of jute ropes that it has become too common. Instead when I saw this sabai grass planter and the shades used in them I took an instant liking to it.
This planter is made of Sabai grass or Babuii grass which is a perennial grass that grows in West Bengal and Orissa Mayurbhanj area. The dried grass has a bright color that makes it so attractive. I like the fact that the site highlights the story behind the products and the artisans. It was very interesting reading a trivia about this grass. Sabai grass is a very sturdy material and was used by the British Army in India to pull their artillery. That explains their strength.
I placed my monsterra in it and now a sabai grass planter made by a craftswoman from eastern Indian rural community adorns the living room of a Bangalore high rise! I love e-commerce.
I am not very fond of plastic and have reduced the usage of plastic in last few years. I am so happy that this sabai grass planter is 100% handmade and 100% biodegradable.
Wooden Serving Spoon
Do you like hosting dinner parties too? I am sure you like crockeries and cutleries in that case. This intricately designed wooden serving spoon felt perfect for dinner parties and I had to get it.
This handcrafted spoon is from Udayagiri town of Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. This town is famous for its wooden forks, spoons, knives and bowls carved beautifully with Persian inspired motifs. This craft is 150 year old.
When I finally saw it in my hand I was wishing I had ordered a serving spoon, fork and knife set. Let’s keep that for the next time.
Which #MadeinIndia Handicraft Items can you find on iTokri
If you are a lover of art and like Indian folk art you will love the options available on the site. From Madhubani to Patua, from Gond to Warli paintings you can find all on the same site.
Apart from handicraft items you can also find running fabrics, clothing options for women, men, and kids, sarees from various regions of India, stationaries, home and kitchen products, handmade jewelleries and much more.
I have my eyes on this beautiful Venkatagiri Pure Handloom saree – such a pretty color!
My shopping experience on iTokri
Shopping online has its own pros and cons. Sometimes deliveries get delayed or wrong items are sent. However, my shopping experience was pretty smooth on the site. The delivery was pretty fast and all the products came together in one single delivery.
The best part however, is this sweet handwritten note and the freebie which is a super cute gesture. Thank you.
So the next time you want to get something #MadeinIndia for home décor or Indian clothing or fabrics, check this site out.
