Have you said Thank You Food Lately? #ThankfulThursday #ThankYouNote Contest Week 5

by tinabasu December 1, 2017
written by tinabasu

You don’t say Thank You Food often, do you? Nor have you ever written a Thank You Note to food, right? But isn’t food a big (huge) part of your existence? So why not thank it once.

thank you food

We don’t value things when we have access to them easily or have it in abundance. We take our parents for granted – because well, they are parents – where are they running away? We take our health for granted – I am fit and fine, no disease, why do I need to take care? And when it comes to food – what’s for dinner? Same old stuff? Okay, I am ordering pizza! But is that all you can think about food?

Food is why we exist. You can think of it in either way. You may live to have food or you live because there is food. There are plenty unfortunate ones who don’t get to see the sight of food for days, forget about good food. Let’s say Thank You Food today.

Today we live in strange worlds. Food, which was once the central part of your life and the day moved around how to get your daily bread and working hard towards providing food for the family, that very same food is now being considered secondary! We are so busy with our work life that we don’t have time for food! Some people in the corporate world even boasts – “I never have time for breakfast and I skip it” Is that a right thing to do?

When I had joined work right after my post-graduation I was all steamed u for every meeting, for every assignment, for every presentation! There have been times when I have had only a few biscuits for breakfast while running for work – yes that’s the most convenient thing when you work for a biscuit brand! I have skipped those lunches too because we had to get the stuffs ready before the boss could call for it! But who gained out of it? NO ONE. It’s a disrespect for food. Skipping these meals meant messing up with the metabolism of body and that hurts.

People across the world don’t have access to clean drinking water, and then we feel we have some right to leave the tap open and let fresh water flow away. Isn’t water a big part of your life too? Have you been thankful for drinking water?

Then there are people who think eating is uncool, not eating anything and surviving on tomatoes is cool! I hope they know a balanced diet is better for the body and that waistline too! Say Thank You Food – the right food make you fitter mind you!

I am thankful I have access to food – good, nutritious, junk whatever form. We can provide for our family. Remember the days in school when you were taught to pray before your meal (or say Grace as the West knows it), it was a way of realizing how lucky we are to have enough food around, and how thankful we should be.

I have a wish to teach my son the practice of thanking food once he’s a little older to understand the concept of food. I can picture ourselves seated together and say Thank You Food!

Have you thanked food lately? No? Do that today!

The Star – #FridayFotoFiction Fiction Writing

I don’t remember when I started.

Teddies, princesses, hearts weren’t meant for me.

I grew up amidst alcohol, abuse, and divorce.

I don’t know they decided to have me when they were not having a normal life!

I didn’t know for the longest time what normal meant.

I found comfort in music. My songs were my freedom.

Surprisingly success and money came in easy.

Everyone wanted me, none was a friend.

The irony is I looked for solace in him.

I thought he would fill me up with love, which I longed.

But he presented me with this gift when I was sixteen.

It felt good, it eased my pains.

But it also drove me to the grave … well almost.

I’m Hazel Samson- the star for you. I’m telling you Say No to Drugs. I have taken the long walk from being doomed to being healthy. You can too.

Did you say Thank You Family? – #ThankfulThursday #ThankYouNote Contest Week 4

by tinabasu November 24, 2017
written by tinabasu

It’s not how big the house is, it’s how happy the home is. Every family has a story to tell, every family is special. I am thankful to my family. Thank you family.

A family is gifted by God, He decided to put you in the best care. Every family has a story to tell, welcome to ours. I am from a huge gigantic Bengali family which is joint and nuclear at the same time! Yes, that’s true.  My grandad had seven brothers. Most of their families were based in Dhaka, pre-partition era. My granddad then decided to have seven sons and three sisters!! Yes, I have 10 uncle and aunts and scores of cousins. That’s why our family is in literal sense big and fat! But there’s nothing I would want to change. Thank you family, for teaching me the value of togetherness and being with each other through laughter and tears.

The family is so huge and scattered that we don’t fit in one house. We have several family houses in Kolkata where all my uncles and aunts live. But our generation, however, is all residing far away from our hometown. We are all scattered across India and abroad.

We have had our share of fun during our growing years. Barbeque nights, Durga Pujas, Christmas parties, weddings, birthdays, summer vacations we knew how to party! It is the most chaotic family when there’s a festival or wedding happening. Nothing seems to make sense, but everything does! It’s quite an example for a lot of people how to stick together.

When my sister decided to get married in Chenganur, Kerala, we landed up in Kerala from different parts of the country. It was still a trimmed contingent of 20 people! We, in fact, ended up going on a weeklong Kerala tour! Thank you family

Now when I have my own little family, I know what the love of family is. I can’t thank anyone enough for my little man. Every trouble, every toil, every grind is absolutely worth it. All of that is forgotten during our play times when he showers us with his infectious giggles and laughter. He is at that stage where he’s picking up words easily and every day it’s a new word a new something for us.

Thank you family for keeping us together, for giving the courage to face everything.

by tinabasu November 24, 2017
written by tinabasu

Getting married this wedding season? Here’s a list of 5 must have Bridal Jewelry to make you look like the dream bride. No wedding can be complete without these essential Bridal Jewelry pieces.

must have bridal jewelry

Indian bridal jewelry grabs everyone’s attention at an Indian wedding. They not only speak of the visual appeal and add that perfect glow to the bride, but the jewelry is considered to be assets of the bride. A bride of any culture remains incomplete without her bridal jewelry – such is the significance of jewelries in a woman’s perfect bridal look. Here’s a list of 5 must have Bridal Jewelry which will take your beauty to another level.

5 must have Bridal Jewelry

Bangles

must have bridal jewelry bangles

Bangles or choodis are essential bridal jewelry to adorn the hands of a new Indian bride. On the auspicious day of the wedding, a bride wears gold bangles and in some cultures she is gifted colorful glass bangles during the wedding ceremony. A variety of gold and diamond encrusted bangles are available to beautify the hands of a bride. Always buy a pair of bangles that is comfortable for regular use along with the other sets of bangles.

Maangtika

must have bridal jewelry

A maangtika is used for filling up the center parting of a bride’s hair which will be filled with vermillion during the marriage ceremony. Maangtikas are worn by brides across different Indian cultures. While selecting a maangtika, the bride should choose it according to the size of her forehead. Choose a heavier maangtika if you have a broad forehead.

Necklace

must have bridal jewelry

The necklace is an essential bridal jewelry because it grabs the most attention. In Bengali and Malayalam weddings brides are known to wear several necklaces in multiple layers. The necklace enhances the overall aura of the bride and adds glamour to her personality. You can choose traditional gold necklace designs or the ones encrusted with diamond, kundan and precious stones. Half and half designs in gold necklaces are also an in thing now.

Earring

must have bridal jewelry

Earrings complement the necklace in your bridal look and are best when bought in a set with the necklace. While exquisite looking earrings give immense visual appeal, choose a bridal earring based on the comfort level since you have to wear it throughout the wedding ceremony.

Diamond Mangalsutra

must have bridal jewelry

The mangalsutra or the sacred thread carries immense importance in a Hindu wedding. It is a symbol of marriage and forms an essential part of the bridal jewelry. This is also a piece of jewelry that the bride would wear every day for the rest of her married life. CaratLane Diamond Mangalsutra is in fashion currently where you can choose several beautiful and trendy designs for your everyday wear. The mangalsutra is, in fact, more than a piece of jewelry. It is worn as a symbol of marital dignity. It is a promise from a husband to his wife of their togetherness. So why not make that promise a beautiful one.

Who are your friends? Thank you Friends – #ThankfulThursday #ThankYouNote Contest Week 3

by tinabasu November 21, 2017
written by tinabasu

Friends are life, friends are partners in crime, friends share emotions, friends know your secrets. But who are these friends? Are you thankful for them? We are celebrating thankfulness this entire Thanksgiving month. Join the #ThankfulThursday #ThankYouNote contest and link up with us.Friends

When you think of the word ‘friend’ by default your heart and mind rush back to school! They say if your friendship has lasted for seven years it’s here to stay for a lifetime. But then again have you given a thought to who your real friends are? Are they the ones who wish you on your birthdays and ‘Like’ your photos on social media? Here’s how I see my friends.

#1 Friends – Parents

This might sound boring – but is a truth – your parents are your friends and perhaps the only ones where you arrive at their top priority list. They worry about you, love you, smile with you, cry with you, scold you and adore you. Even if the world forgets you they won’t.

#2 Friends – Life Partner

The person you are spending your life with needs to be a friend first and then a husband or a wife or a partner. If he or she hasn’t become your friend and you can’t share that vibe then there’s something wrong. Working towards it would be a good idea.

#3 Friends – Buddies

Childhood friends, friends from school, locality, classmates, neighbors who have known you since you were tiny crazy things normally stay with you long enough. They are also the ones who might make guest appearances in your lie – not there for long and then meet one day and pick up from where you left. But you know they’ll watch your back.

#4 Friends – Books

Might sound weird for this list – but they’ll never fail you. Books will not just stay but will guide you to be a better person

#5 Friends – Diary/Journal

As kids, we all have written diaries. I found them really good to spill everything. I still write a lot of things – emotions, rants, ideas which I keep only to myself. I find the diary – now Ms Word very therapeutic.

#6 Friends – Yourself

Never underestimate this friend of yours. You yourself are your best friend. There’s always an inner voice that tells you to do things, that inner voice guide you. It’s quite theatrical when that inner voice is giving you the options of good and bad and leaving it to you to decide. But I consider it to be my friend which does help me in a lot of things that I do. I am thankful for it.

I am also thankful for all the friends mentioned above. It is very easy to make friends, but it is also a very complex relationship to maintain. Choose your friends well once you are grown up. Not everyone deserves a friend like and you deserve the best of the best.
