by tinabasu

TikTok is a platform for sharing short-form mobile videos on a wide range of topics. TikTok is available in over 150 markets, and 75 languages TikTok’s mission is to inspire creativity and bring joy, it is a destination for creating and discovering real, interesting, and fun short-form mobile videos that will make your day. TikTok is also a community for everyone where any user is welcome irrespective of nationality, ethnicity, gender or socio-economic levels.

What is #EduTok by Tiktok?

TikTok is also committed to using the platform to make the young users more aware and contribute towards their holistic development. With this goal in mind, TikTok launched the #EduTok program. Through the campaign, TikTok wants to encourage the users to create meaningful and relevant content on a variety of topics and present it to the youth across the country. The campaign also wishes to mentor the youth with essential skills. In order to further this cause, TikTok has joined hands with top social enterprises such as Josh Talks and The Nudge Foundation to launch a mentorship program. The programs want to provide guidance to first-time internet users and help them to get access to high-quality educational content created by various TikTok creators and other educational organizations. As part of the mentorship program, Josh Talks will organize 25 #EduTok workshops over six months starting from October 2019 until March 2020.  Around 5,000 creative individuals will be shortlisted from across the country and hands-on training has already been delivered by existing and popular #EduTok creators.

The Nudge Foundation will create tailor-made content for the participants, covering essential themes like Soft Skills, Skill Development, Identity Building, Job Readiness, and Career Planning. These workshops will be organized across six states including Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, and Jammu.  Up to 200 TikTok users will attend each workshop.  These workshops will be conducted by TikTok creators in vernacular language to draw maximum participation from the audience. These creators have inspired the youth by creating interesting content on motivation, language skills, health, and fitness on TikTok.

TikTok Collaboration with NSDC

TikTok has also collaborated with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to support skill development in Indian youth. NSDC will leverage the TikTok platform and use an in-app campaign called #Skills4all to educate its users regarding the ongoing government-driven skill development programs and various vocational training opportunities available in India. This partnership is aligned with TikTok’s mission to empower India’s creative economy by providing over 200 million users with a global platform to showcase their talent and skills across categories. TikTok is hopeful that it will be able to help NSDC bridge the existing gap of skills supply by educating the TikTok users about the various vocational programs offered. NSDC will promote skill development through various for-profit vocational institutions, generate awareness and provide training to the youth with scale, speed, and high standards to achieve the vision of ‘Skill India’. At present, the campaign has 6.3 billion views.

I believe Tiktok was initially developed for educational purposes but later it became an entertainment only platform. No doubt few are doing a good job but the figure is negligible. Finally, I am happy that TikTok took this #EduTok initiative.
