Five Sentence Fiction – Living the Dream

by Tina Basu

I am on a look out for the word prompts, drabble challenges, 55fiction challenges and what not. Lillie never misses her prompts and I try not to miss them as well. Here is my entry for this weeks 5SF.

You can read my earlier short fictions here and 55Fictions here.

Living the Dream

Every time she came here she felt happy.

Every time thousands of people applauded she felt glad.

This was all that she loved – the bright lights, the peaceful music, the story – this was all that she longed for.

Every time Maya saw her beautiful daughter dazzle on the stage she felt a sense of pride, a sense of accomplishment.

Her daughter was living the dream that Maya couldn’t do when she was younger caught up in two jobs and night classes, but she was happy she could provide for her daughter and mold her as a popular ballet dancer in the town.

An interesting story where the reader's perspective changes in the last two sentences. Very nice!

Very nice.. Most of the mothers, especially in our country live their dreams through their children, and in a way that is good too, they excel in achieving it someway right? loved it 🙂

Yes they do. And no one is happier than a mother when her child becomes what she might have aspired to be one day.

It is nice to see our kids realize our dream…but, I would have loved if Maya would have realized hers.

I hope to watch my kids live many dreams. I have multiple sclerosis. So far I'm still functional and still have periods of remission, but I know that can change. I try to enjoy everything I can in the meantime.
Thank you for visiting The Netherworld.

Some unfulfilled dreams do get realized by our children, if we're lucky. Nice read 🙂

That's an adorable story. Tina, our stories for this prompt are almost on similar lines – a mother's sacrifice. Nice to read your take on the prompt :):)
