5 Unique Short Stories for Kids with Morals (English Moral Stories)

by tinabasu July 14, 2025
written by tinabasu

If you’re a parent looking for meaningful entertainment or a teacher hoping to instill values through storytelling, you’re in the right place. These unique short stories in English are filled with warmth, imagination, and timeless morals. Whether for bedtime or storytime at school, these moral short stories in English will leave a lasting impact.

5 Moral Short Stories for Kids in English

Let’s have a fun bedtime story session with good morals.

1. The Cloud That Wanted to Keep Raining

Once, a fluffy white cloud named Coco loved making flowers bloom. Every time it rained, plants danced, and the earth smiled. But Coco was scared—what if it ran out of rain?

So, it stopped raining and just floated. Days passed. The flowers wilted, the birds flew away, and the earth turned dry.

Seeing this, the Sun said, “Dear Coco, your gift is not in holding back, but in giving.”

Coco gathered courage and poured rain over the earth. Joy returned. Flowers blossomed, and Coco realized: giving made it feel full.

Moral: True happiness comes from sharing what we have.

2. Milo the Mirror Cat

Milo was a shiny mirror-cat in a magical town. He showed others who they really were inside. One day, a grumpy boy looked into Milo and saw himself angry, lonely, and tired.

“Is that really me?” the boy asked.

Milo nodded. “But mirrors only reflect. You can change what you see.”

The boy started helping others, smiling more, and slowly, his reflection glowed with kindness.

Moral: What we see in others often reflects what’s inside us.

3. The Button That Didn’t Want to Be Sewn

In a tailor’s shop, a shiny blue button didn’t want to be sewn onto a shirt. “I want to be free and sparkle alone!”

The tailor tried, but the button jumped off every time. Then came a strong wind that blew the button into a drain.

Alone and muddy, the button missed the shirt and the people it could’ve met.

One day, the tailor found it again and gave it a second chance. This time, the button held tightly.

Moral: Sometimes, being part of something makes us shine the brightest.

4. Tara and the Time-Tied Tree

Tara, a curious girl, discovered a tree that showed glimpses of the past in its leaves. Every leaf told a different story.

She watched one where a boy ignored his grandmother. The leaf turned grey.

In another, a girl helped a stranger. The leaf glowed gold.

Tara asked, “How do I get golden leaves?”

The tree whispered, “Be kind. Be honest. Respect all.”

From that day, Tara made golden leaves of her own.

Moral: Every choice we make becomes a story—make yours beautiful.

5. The Whispering Shoes

In a small village, a boy found a pair of magical shoes that whispered what to do. “Help the old man cross,” they said. “Pick up the trash.”

People loved the boy’s kindness, but one day, the shoes stopped whispering.

He panicked. What now?

Then he heard a soft voice in his heart say, “You already know what’s right.”

From then on, the boy listened to his heart—and he never needed the shoes again.

Moral: The best guidance often comes from within.

These short stories for kids are crafted to build character and spark imagination. Share them, read them aloud, and let the morals grow in your child’s heart.

5 Proactive Health Choices That Help Manage Blood Sugar Levels of People Living with Diabetes

by tinabasu May 6, 2025
written by tinabasu

Every summer, I think back to the days when, as children, we would climb mango trees or play all day. We were so carefree, and our evening snacks included pakoras and samosas, on which we used to gorge! But as an adult, I am mindful about eating right and leading a healthy lifestyle. I have seen my parents, both living with diabetes, juggle their routines with medications and glucose monitoring and heard to their whispered worries about “spikes!”

However, I have never seen my dad, who’s a doctor himself, miss a day of his medical practice. This taught me early on that diabetes can be managed well.

From regular monitoring to mindful nutrition, there are many ways you can manage diabetes well. Now in my late 30s, I’ve made it my mission to make healthier lifestyle choices for both my parents to rewrite our family’s health story.

5 Proactive Health Choices for People Living With Diabetes

I have realized with time that diabetes is a condition that can be managed with nutrition, exercise, monitoring and medication. Let me share what has been working for us.

#1 The Power of Monitoring

While my dad checks his blood sugar levels every day, my mom was quite hesitant with the constant pricking initially.

“I feel fine,” she would insist, to avoid blood sugar monitoring. As a caregiver, it became my duty to keep her busy like a child and, in the meantime, check her blood sugar levels.

#2 Walking – Our Daily Dose of Zen

My dad used to say, “Walking is my meditation. A 20-minute walk after dinner isn’t actually just for digestion; it helps with blood sugar levels too.”

I usually accompanied him, so we started small, like laps around the backyard while enjoying the breeze.

#3 Food is Fuel” Became their Mantra

Practicing healthy eating happened quite late in our lives! I don’t really know what it is with Bengalis and their love for food!

With time, I realized it’s not only about restriction but about balance.

Right Swaps: Healthy Foods to Manage Diabetes

Our nutritionist recommended quinoa, millets, and roasted chickpeas, which were not just some healthier choices but tasty too! If you have been following my Instagram stories, you know about my clean eating series!

Here the nutritionist helped us with other healthy foods to manage diabetes that you can also try out if you or anyone in your family is living with diabetes.

  • Rice – My mom likes rice with broccoli instead of white rice.
  • Roti – Our nutritionist suggested mixing oats, besan, ragi, bajra, and jowar flours with 1 part whole wheat flour. She mentioned that millet-based flours have a lower glycemic index than whole wheat flour. 6
  • Snack – My dad prefers air-fried makhana and seeds like pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc.
  • Tea & Coffee – I make a variety of black tea, jasmine tea or coffee with cinnamon with regular milk and sugar for my parents.
  • Curd – My mom finds low-fat dahi or Greek yogurt easy to digest.
  • Desserts – Both my parents love the desserts I make with dates or ripe bananas!

#4 Stress Less, Sleep More

A good night’s sleep is a must! My secret weapon? A few drops of lavender oil on the pillow and warm milk for my parents before they go to bed.

#5 The Doctor-Recommended Diabetes Specific Nutrition

A few months back, our doctor suggested Ensure Diabetes Care for my parents to manage common diabetes symptoms of fatigue1 in my mother and hunger pangs2 in my dad!

If you are someone living with diabetes, you know how annoying hunger pangs can be!

Ensure Diabetes Care is clinically proven to manage blood sugar levels in 4 weeks.3 Its Triple Care System4 of high fibre, high-quality protein, and 36 nutrients helped my parents to manage common diabetes symptoms like fatigue and hunger pangs.

Ensure Diabetes Care is the #1 selling diabetes nutrition drink in the world.5

How to Style Shorts for Casual Outings

by tinabasu August 26, 2024
written by tinabasu

As the sun beams and the days get longer, it’s time to embrace the ultimate summer staple: shorts! But hey, we’re not just talking about your basic denim cutoffs. We’re diving into the fun, fashion-forward world of shorts for women and how you can style them for every casual outing with flair and personality.

Types of Shorts for Women

Ready to turn heads and stay cool? Let’s get into it!

The classic denim dream:

Jeans are another classic that remains popular even to this very day, and so are denim shorts for women. They’re good for any casual event, easy to style, and very comfortable for any occasion or event. If you are going out to a picnic or meeting friends for brunch, you can never go wrong with simple denim shorts and a white blouse. You can wear it tucked in if you would like to emphasize your waistline, or wear it with rolled-up sleeves for a casual style. Simply slip into some casual sneakers or sandals and top off the look with a charming crossbody bag.

Women Washed Denim Shorts

Floral fantasy:

Floral shorts are one of the best allies when it comes to adding a playful and carefree tone. Floral shorts are suited for a casual garden party or a walk around the town since they radiate both colours and fun. It is best to wear them with a plain, basic black or white T-shirt or a tank top so as not to overshadow the print. Just slip into espadrille wedges or flat sandals to maintain the comfort level without compromising on the style statement. Accessorise with a wide-brimmed hat and a pair of round sunglasses to complement the look while keeping off the sun.

Chic and sporty:

Sporty shorts are perfect for wearing to a casual sports game or even a weekend picnic. Accompany them with a sleek high-waist crop top or an athletic zip-up hoodie. As a final touch, what can be better than putting on fashionable sneakers and an athletic backpack? Finish up your outfit with a playful accessory such as a baseball cap in a bright colour or a great visor, and you will be ready to go and have some fun in the sun!

Luxe linen:

On hotter days when you want to keep cool but also stylish, a pair of linen shorts for women is a great idea. You can choose neutral tones such as beige, white, or cream and pair it with a colourful blouse, perhaps going floral. A floral scarf around your head will be a cute touch to your delicate look.

URB_N Women Solid Cargo Shorts

These are the amazing ways your shorts for women can be styled so you can don a new avatar every time you step out. From denim to florals to linen to sporty, there’s a trend for every fashionista in you. Grab your favourite pair of shorts and mix and match them with different tops in your wardrobe for new looks. Happy styling!

Creative Fancy Dress Ideas for Indian Independence Day: A Parent’s Guide

by tinabasu August 13, 2024
written by tinabasu

Dear parents, Independence Day is coming up, and I am sure you are wondering what to dress up your kids in for the Independence Day fancy dress competitions. We only can think of a few ideas at the last minute, however,  here are some exciting and easy-to-create fancy dress ideas for kids that can help them learn about India’s rich history and culture while having fun.

Independence Day Fancy Dress Competition

Indian Independence Day celebrated on August 15th, is a day of great pride and joy for every Indian. For children, participating in various activities can be a fun and educational experience, especially dressing up for fancy dress competitions.  It is a day when they dress up as freedom fighters and prepare for Independence Day speeches or skits to perform in school or societies.

I remember dressing up my son as an Indian Army soldier when he was younger for one of the fancy dress competitions for Independence Day. That is what I could manage last moment – a camouflage pant and a shirt and some stripes of black paint on the face.

So here I will try to find links if kids fancy dress costumes are available online so that you can save some time.

Independence Day Fancy Dress Competition Ideas on Freedom Fighters

Let us check some fancy dress ideas for Indian Independence Day so that you can skip the last-minute rush!

1. Mahatma Gandhi

Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation, is a timeless choice for a fancy dress. To recreate his look:

  • Clothing: A simple white dhoti and shawl.
  • Accessories: Round glasses, a walking stick, and a bald cap to mimic his iconic look.
  • Props: A small spinning wheel (charkha) can be an excellent addition. This costume not only teaches children about Gandhi’s role in India’s independence but also promotes the values of simplicity and non-violence.

2. Jawaharlal Nehru

Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister, is another popular figure.

Thankfully Nehru costume can be easily sourced online.
