fun activities to do with kids

Ladies, how is the time at home going with you and your kids? Keeping children busy and engaged requires lots of ideas! – Especially when she has to manage work, home, cook amongst all the other work! Ask me – I am living and breathing this too.

I thought of getting a keyboard for my son during the vacation– we could utilize the time to learn something new. But when the order got cancelled I had to think of something else.

Instead of sulking over it I actually sat down to see what all we had in the house and how we can make this time creative, fun and engaging.

I am sharing with you 7 fun activities to do with your child while at home. All of these are indoor activities for kids – toddlers and pre-schoolers that will keep them engaged and happy.

But before we begin, remember, kids are at home. So don’t mind if they are creating a mess. It’s okay, mamma – breathe and stay calm!

7 fun activities to do with your child

#1 Art & Crafts

Get your kids to sit with art & crafts. If you have coloured papers at home it’s great, else get creative with crayons and water colours.

We did a lot of art since Bluey has been home – pencil drawing, finger painting and water colours. It was a lot of fun.

#2 Play & Learn

One of the best fun activities to do with your child while at home is play and learn through stories and play. I am running low on my printer ink, so didn’t quite want to print out activity sheets from the internet. Instead I created some fun maths activity sheets at home with my son’s favourite Legos!

#3 Gardening

Apartment living doesn’t mean you can’t have a garden. We have done a lot of container gardening and we are growing a lot of vegetables. Get your kid’s sand toys out and teach them how to water plants with the watering can in their play set! My son loves his gardening time.

The easiest vegetable to grow from your kitchen is spinach. You can just plant the roots when you get a bunch from the market and see it growing amazing leaves within a few weeks. We have harvested several times and it’s a favourite activity for the 5-year old.

#4 Pool Party in your balcony

It is summer, so you can’t ideally say no to your kid’s request for a pool. Take your kids’ bathtub to the balcony, fill it with water and let him have a dip with his favourite toys.

My son says –“I am just chilling with my pretend friends!” (While the mom rolls her eyes for the 568th time)

We also have my morning coffee and Bluey’s glass of hot PediaSure out in the balcony where he pretends he’s a teacher and we are the students!

#5 Cook with Kids

Non fire cooking, baking are great ways to engage kids in your kitchen and teach them the importance of food and healthy eating. Total nutrition and healthy eating is an integral part of children’s growth.Recently we made the Healthy Chocolate Banana Pancake which is Mr. Bluey’sfavorite. It’s made of whole wheat flour (atta) and jaggery powder instead of white sugar.

He helps me in baking too –pouring measured items, greasing pans, and sometimes in whisking eggs too! We even come up with some interesting recipes that include adding his favourite PediaSure in. He finds it super fun and delicious too.

Hola Friends, I hope you are doing good. While it is very important to stay home right now, you must make efforts to stay healthy too. That’s why ICICI Lombard has taken up the initiative of keeping #IndiaHealthyAtHome. So today I am here to share with you how you can engage your kids in some fun cooking and make a healthy breakfast for them. . . Is the lockdown keeping your child away from all the fun? I am doing a lot of activities with my four-year-old – cooking being one of them. We are making various healthy variations of snacks, cookies, dinners, and many more. . . Today I am sharing an easy yet healthy recipe that you can make with your kids. Wholewheat Chocolate Banana Pancake – tada!! My son loves it – chocolate and banana with butter is an amazing combination and the aroma is going to make you feel very happy. . . There is no maida – we are using regular wholewheat flour/ atta and instead of white sugar I am using a healthier alternative – jaggery powder. Follow the recipe and enjoy an amazing time with your little ones. . . Ingredients: 1. Wholewheat flour – 1 cup 2. Jaggery Powder – 1/4th cup 3. Cocoa powder – 1 tablespoon 4. Ripe Banana – 1 5. Baking powder – 1 teaspoon 6. Baking soda – 1/2 teaspoon 7. – Milk – 1 cup 8. butter – 2 tablespoon to make the pancakes . . 1. Sieve through and mix all the dry ingredients together in a bowl. 2. Blend banana and milk together in a blender 3. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ones and mix it well in a batter 4. Heat a griddle/ tawa on medium heat, add butter and add a ladle full of batter. 5. wait till you see bubbles forming on the top (this will take 2-3 mins) 6. Flip the pancake and cook for another 1 minute. 7. Drizzle with some chocolate sauce if you want and serve it with few slices of banana . . This recipe will make 6 pancakes. . . . I hope you liked this recipe made by my little chef. Are you doing some fun recipes with your kids too? Let me know how you are engaging your kids in the kitchen and making healthy recipes. #6 Enjoy screen time together, for a change

Now that e-Learning is becoming popular, we have been exploring a lot online. Apart from his activity work books and story books, we try out apps that help kids learn. It’s been fun exploring all of this.He is also learning how to use the computer because of his online classes. His educative and fun shows we watch together, making screen time useful.

#7 Fun Games at Home

Games at home might sound difficult when your child exhausts all of his toys. We made games out of daily objects found in the house! Creating a treasure hunt with household objects is a fun way to keep your child on his toes. I loved making the clues (which I had to read out though).

We also did – obstacle races, made our own snake & ladder game, tic tac toe and what not!

Aren’t these some easy fun activities to do with your child while at home? All of these indoor activities for kids are safe for kids between 3 to 5 year olds and can be done with the help of a parent.

Due to this pandemic, it is impossible to take kids outside for excursions. So me and my wife try to engage our kids as much as possible. We ask them to show their creative side by drawing and singing. This mantra is working so far ☺️

Now these are some amazing activities to do with kids. Ever since the lockdown happened, my son has taken up the role of my little helper and does help me with gardening, cleaning and folding clothes, stacking vessels etc. With this we have created a routine for us & end up having ample time to do fun activities too.

All of these are really great activities, but the gardening and cooking will go a long way in shaping their personalities. These to activities instil patience in kids, which, as we know, all children are bad at.
